There will be no more sweeps for the isles or jackets. Something happened to Tampa. I don't know what exactly, but they weren't Tampa. The pens just aren't good.
They looked to die in game 3. They just quit in game 3.

Looked like they just gave up and said ''f*** it, we're gonna lose, let's go home. We'll just play out the rest of this game and just punch the clock on Tuesday night and we're home for the rest of the Spring and the entire Summer''.

The better comparison is with the late '90's teams that were the top seed and got bounced three straight years. We won divisions in the mid 2000's but weren't anywhere near a top seed or the prohibitive favorite.
True.

Even though I was positively convinced that '09 team had it. Probably more so than any squad I've ever been a fan of.

Yeah, 2009 still stings. It's hard for me to even place the good memories from that season because the finish was so brutal.

Game 7, 2009 really doesn’t bother me. People get so caught up in those final 2 minutes but the truth is that it should have never gotten that far in the first place. Maurice was coaching circles around Sutter that series and it had all the makings of a letdown way before it actually happened. That said, they pretty much had the series in the bag. But I don’t know, I just wasn’t surprised they came up on the losing end of that one. In some other universe, Madden and Pandolfo are still being used as part of a top line.

I'll probably wind up picking the Blue Jackets to win next round, but let's see who they play first. Who the hell would they even play? This format has me all goofy. We haven't seen the second wild card beat the top seed in the first round since this format started 5 years ago.

Toronto or Boston. It's straight brackets (in part because the NHL can do its dopey bracket challenge), Columbus wound up in the other division bracket cause both wild cards came from the Metro, same as last year when we wound up in the Atlantic bracket.

I actually didn't realize that no second wild-card had won a series, yeah it's only been a few years but you generally think every other year there's some top seed that loses.

I just noticed Bleed's 'location' now lolz

How the HELL did the Sharks wind up with 100 points anyway? With that goaltending and a +28 goal differential they somehow finished nearly twenty games over NHL .500. And without any SO wins too.

Nashville just got blitzed. I don't know what it is with that team, but I just never get the feeling that they will compete for a Cup.

I'm happy at least Wpg-Stl, Bos-Tor, and Nsh-Dal are close series and will most likely go a minimum of 6 games (assuming Stars don't blow 4-0 lead).

Makes me feel awful for Boyle.

Speaking of which, he's been out due to illness for a few games now(this one included).

I hope it's just a case of the Flu and not anything related to his condition. :(

EDIT : 4 GOALS ON 8 SHOTS, RINNE? That's not going to cut it.

The Stone acquisition and Fleury in goal makes this a very real thing.

They're as good a bet as anyone at this point. I mean if you were ranking teams you MIGHT give the Caps a slight nod in the East (although I could definitely see a Trotz trolljob coming up) while the West is wide open.

The Preds said it was an "appendix procedure", so it doesn't sound like it was related to his cancer.

Well that's good...and more clarity than any playoff related absences usually are.

Well good that it's nothing related although I do know from experience of having my own appendix removed(if that's what they're doing), what a real b*tch it is.

I don't think he'll return to the lineup this series unless the Preds advance.

Yeah. Usually they're vague with the reports saying it's "Upper Body" or "Lower Body" stuff. This was quite specific and I'm glad it was mentioned.

BTW, should the Preds get eliminated, I wouldn't mind having Boyle back for another season or two.

though I think I might be in minority for that.

I would love it if the LawlyCanes could pull this out. Would be great for the sport to get some new blood into the deeper rounds. I think NYb vs. Lumbus would be a fun conference final.

Also, don't ****ing kill me for this but I think I'm on the Icelanders bandwagon

Hop on in!!!!!

Like, I don't get any pride in seeing a 2009 Atlantic Division Champions banner when all it makes me think about is Marty letting in a goal from the blue line with a minute left in Game 7. That's a terrible memory. Why would I want to be reminded of how we blew a great opportunity to compete for the Cup?

Regular season accomplishments are for losers who can't get anything done in the post-season. Nashville's banner raising ceremony this past fall was embarrassing to watch.
But what about this one?

This was one of the best Sharks teams I've seen, especially when everyone is healthy, but it was predictable that they'd go out in round one because of goaltending. I hate Jones more than any other Shark ever. It's not enough that he was overrated as f*** before this season even started and was average at the very best. Now this season he performs badly enough to cost them the first seed and they play Vegas instead of Colorado, now he kills them in this playoff series.

Guy is AIDS as a goalie. He's barely even a starting goaltender. Outside of someone that's really washed up and ready to retire like Mike Smith (and he might not even be worse) or someone like Koskinen or one of the few teams that don't have a starter and just have two backups, Jones has gotta be the worst starter in the league. Jimmy Howard would be an upgrade over this BUM.

The trade wasn't worth it for a first round pick and now the new contract is even worse.
