Sign Kassian, Pakarainen and Oesterle. Who cares about the rest.

Chia might get something out of Musil in a minor trade. He has no future with Oilers.

the others are as good as gone...

I dont think Chia will want to keep Kessy around..

Like you said Kassian, Pakarinen and Oesterle are the only 3 RFAs worth keeping.
From the UFA list... maybe just Brad Hunt and maybe Klinkhammer.

Thats 41\42 contracts..

We will be fine!! Please sign Winquist!!

RW(5+3): Eberle, Yakupov, Kassian, Pakarinen, Pitlick, Sallinen, Platzer, Russell

D(10+3-1): Klefbom, Davidson, Sekera, Nurse, Fayne, Oesterle, Reinhart, Ference, Clendening, Laleggia, Simpson, Musil, Betker, Jones

G(4+1): Talbot, Brossoit, Laurikainen, Ellis, Lundstrom

Lundstrum is done......he was atrocious at the AHL level here. As soon as Ellis was signed he was sent to Norfolk...ECHL.

I thought Musil started playing big minutes down the stretch? Maybe he doesn't have a NHL career, but seems like we probably should hold onto him for another year.

He always was one of those guys that was going to take longer to make it.

I know this won't be a popular opinion since he's got quite a few fans around here, but I wonder what this signing means for Winquist's future in the org. We've got a lot of bodies for Bakersfield now and there hasn't been any word about him re-signing yet.

Winquist is a heck of a player to watch. He only gets injured because of the way he plays...aka Pitlick. He is far better than a lot of others that we had last year under contract. I hope that they give him at least an AHL contract. Laleggia is so bad on defense that they moved him up to offense. Winquist many times was on the top line.

When you head "NCAA free agent Patrick Russell", Danish really wasn't the first thing to come to mind.

Apparently his grandmother is half english, half japanese so I'm gonna guess the name Russell comes from his grandmothers side. Patrick is a pretty common name both in Denmark and England.

Apparently he is Danish and also played with Joey Benik in St. Cloud....making it to the Frozen Four.

There are a few other Danes on the market too.

Hmm...

Googled facts/notes;
-captained a u20 team featuring former Oil King Mads Eller and Oliver Bjorkstrand. This guy has years of international chops.
-also played with Nick Jensen, Jesper Petterson, Jakub Vrana, Victor Crus Rydberg, Erik Forsbacka Karlsson....the other Erik Karlsson....Nik Ehlers' brother etc.
-It actually looks like he was the highest scorer on his team with a lot of those guys (who are a couple years younger) in 2012 for Linkoping in the SuperElit.

I hereby dub him the "most interesting prospect". Obviously he's a work in progress though.

He really does sound like Harti 2.0.

Lot of things to like but unlikely to be an NHLer with skating issues.

Usually Patrik in Scandinavia though. Reminds me more of playing NHL 16 and scouting the Danes an them all having English names.

I think in Denmark (and Norway) Patrick is the most common version whereas Sweden and Finland use Patrik.

We saw with draisitl that if you train you can overcome this. Even Eberle was sent back and had to work on skating. If these guys have the drive they can overcome it.

There is a reason these guys went undrafted. They had to continue to work on there game to get noticed after college. Now they have to continue to make a living. The success rate isn't exactly the best, but every so often you end up with a guy like Dekeyser or Krug or Bozak who have made a decent impact. Other times you get the Letustu or Read who are decent depth options. And in some cases just getting an Oesterle or Arcobello who turn out to be great depth players for the AHL is all you really should expect.

I think Lundstrom has already signed back in Europe. Hopefully Ference retires or is bought out.

Career AHL version of Jannik Hansen. Not going to get real excited for this one. Strictly depth for Bakersfield, maybe an injury call up for the 4th line.

Doubt either of those scenarios happen in regards to Ference. He's on LTIR if memory serves me correct, so he's not eligible to be bought out, and he would be crazy to retire and forfeit the salary he is owed.

Although it could be considered cap circumvention, I don't know why he wouldn't be offered a job as an ambassador with the club at an inflated salary to save the cap space while still being a part of the org.

We don't know what we have in these players until they get NHL assignments. Some may steal jobs from the guys in the NHL. Davidson and Oesterle are some examples.

both paid their dues in the AHL ... Russell will be there for atleast a couple years..
Its really not a knock on these players to be classified as injury callups.

Unlikely that they sign Winquist. He will have many options July 1 and I suspect he has been *"Petried" by MacT putting any Oiler offer on the bottom of his pile.

*Petried - treated with little respect while seeing players with less value advance ahead.
