League is starting a little later than usual this year. I think because of the World Cup.

They really do need to start the season in September and have the playoffs end at the end of May at the latest. June is ridiculous. Obviously with the silly World Cup that won't be happening now.

Wow oilers play an easy schedule in October (Blues the only exception), we HAVE to take advantage of this.

I would say if there is only 1 exception in that October schedule, it would be a Caps.

But yes easy schedule besides the Caps & Blues.

I was wondering why the Oilers were playing an afternoon game against the Jets and than remembered the Heritage Classic

There's a 6 game road trip from hell in Nov.

Outside of the home & home with the Canucks, the end of the year is ugly... All Ducks, Kings and Sharks

Initial thoughts on schedule:

Season opens up pretty light with Flames X2, Sabres, Hurricanes, Blues, Jets, Caps, Canucks, Senators, Leafs, Rangers, Islander, Wings

Bolded= Winnable, Italic = toss up, underline = likely loss. So possible to go 8-5 in first 13, even better if they come out hot

Then just like that the schedule flips into a mighty hard one. Pens, Stars, Rangers, Ducks, Kings, Stars, Hawks. Thats a blood bath. 2-5 would be a success

Then it softens up for 6 and then equals out after

But pretty good first 13 games to start a year

The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today released its 82-game schedule for the 2016-17 NHL regular season.

The Jets will open the season at home on Thursday, Oct. 13 against the Carolina Hurricanes followed by the team’s first road game at Minnesota on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Jets will play four of the first five games of the season on home ice, including the Tim Hortons Heritage Classic against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. CT at Investors Group Field. The Jets will also again host a New Year’s Eve game against the New York Islanders at 6 p.m.

The longest home stand of the season will span six games from Feb. 28-Mar. 11. The longest road trip of the season will see the Jets play five games from Nov. 17-25 away from MTS Centre.

The Jets will face Canadian teams at MTS Centre on eight occasions during the 2016-17 season. The Oilers will be in town for the Heritage Classic along with Dec. 1. The Toronto Maple Leafs make their lone trip to MTS Centre on Oct. 19, Montreal is in Winnipeg on Jan. 11 and Ottawa is the last Canadian team the Jets will face on Apr. 1. The Calgary Flames visit MTS Centre twice this season, on Jan. 9 and Mar. 11. Vancouver is in town once, on Mar. 26.

Got this from the Jets site. Can anyone confirm whats going on here? Is there 2 out door games?

If the Flames aren't out of the playoffs before the final 10 games, they will be with their schedule.

Flames final 14 games...LOL

Sharks x2, Kings x2, Ducks x2. In fact, final 14 look nasty when you include the Blues, Preds, Caps, Kings again, Stars, Bruins and Pens.

Whats hard to understand? They're not saying the oilers play two outdoor games... "the Oilers will be in town for the hertiage classic along with dec 1" meaning they play the hertiage classic and then will also play the jets on december 1st....

One team I was interested in was the Kings as I feel theyll be the one team ahead of us inlast playoff spot IF we improve and challenge for a spot

And of you go by history, 95% of teams not in playoffs by American Thanksgiving in November fail to make playoffs

To open season: Sharks/Flyers/Wild/Stars/Canucks/BJs/Preds/Blues/Hawks/Ducks/Penguins

And then becomes easy. But in first 11 games thats a tough schedule and they could go 4-7. They then have 6 easier games to come to American Thanksgiving but could barely be .500 by then
