As of now... ....

Having Melnyk and Dorion for so long is going to do that. I would add DJ to that list but poor guy, an assistant trying to do a level above what he is able to. Even for Dorion it was the same, Melnyk created this mess and new ownership in September can't overcome that in just a few months. That's what the fanbase doesn't understand (and of course external fans mocking the Sens)
the situation that we are in now, is; Who cares how we got here, we are here. And how do we get out?

1) CAP issues.. everyone screams, buy this guy out. Buy that guy out.. Your money, or Michael's A's.. We are talking millions.. And a team that normally loses millions. So, we ask ownership to lose more millions just for us!!!

2) hockey specific.. Goalies.. Its not like the ocean is deep with them. In fact, this is the worst that the league has ever been in terms of a goalie shortage. We hear names like Markstrom.. okay, 34, expensive,. Will cost a ton to get him and by the way, 10-12 other teams may want him.

And to get him, you need to clear cap space, which returns us to 1)

3) a right shot D... if you think goalies are rare, check out right shot D?

4) A Selke caliber forward... think goalies and right D

5) A hard nosed, hard edge veteran... we are back in goalie and right D territory.

6) a Veteran coach who can teach defense and hold them accountable.. Okay, where.. who..??? And how do you hold them accountable..6 guys with 8 Y x X dollar.. What do you do exactly? Send them to the minors!!

This is not panic, this is hard/harsh reality.

This team has a large boulder it has to push up the mountain.. It will take a while.

Melnyk out needed to start in 2013, not 2018. Five years too late.

PD would have figured it out of he was given a 10 year extension. ;)

Andlauer and Staios are doing exactly what they said they would do.

They wanted to see the entire team play together.... that meant waiting for Pinto to come back. They are now assessing the offseason goals.

Making hasty decisions will not be something from this front office.
It is 7 Degrees outside (Noon, March 4th).. It will hit 13 or 14 degrees today. The weather office and the weather network are close to each other in prediction and envision well above zero all week, it will dip a tad on the weekend and then back up.

So, March will be warm and pleasant. Unless something crazy occurs, it will most likely mean April is warm and pleasant.

All the people with disposable income, the ones that the Sens need to fill their arena, they will be on patios, complaining about the Sens. and UNLESS THE PATIO HAS A tv, THEY WILL NOT BE WATCHING IT EITHER.

So, Michael who relies on ~ $100 (CDN) a head, will see 2000-3000 less fans. Will be out 300 K a game. TSN and Sportsnet will be out about the same 300 K a game thanks to lower viewership.

So the Sens and their associates will be out 600 K.. a game..

On a team with about 87-88 M in true salaries and increased expenditures elsewhere! When the Euge owned it and had 16 K fans and was paying 70 M and next to nothing on other expenses... he lost 10-15 M.. What is Michael looking at? The Euge did not drop 950 M in purchase price!!

Hopefully we can address at least two or three of those key needs (e.g., a better reliable goaltender, a top 4 physical RD and a competent coaching staff) with a trade or UFA acquisition or signing before the start of next season. Tarasenko and Kubalik will be gone as UFAs opening up $7.5M in salary cap dollars. Brannstrom is UFA too and freeing up $2M. We would have to get rid of Korpisalo and/or Forsberg to create a G roster spot.

After 59 games this year,
195 GF
212 GA
1774 SA
.880 sv%

Last year after 59 games,
184 GF
187 GA
1896 SA
.901 sv%

Can't quite put my finger on the difference...

Crazy so if we had last years save % we’d have around a +35 goal differential. That would put us 7th in the league with just average goaltending.

Some good points in there by Ross and more dangling of the hip surgeries fixing his poor career numbers. Dorion had already struck out on a couple goaltenders, so at least this one didn't require assets beyond cap space, but he was sticking his neck out. Pointed to the one season and finish in LA as a big reason they jumped on.

All of my and many others' concerns basically wrapped up in an attempt to be positive. It was a very risky signing and everyone knew that much.

Save percentage and PPG for/against at -13 are killing this year's results, along with a big slew of 3rd period lead losses.

Maybe Korpisalo sucks in the 1st year of deals, or maybe he is just done. Tough decision - that buyout is costly.

Powerplay would've seemed sensible to get Chychrun to the middle of the ice as the hammer all year, but has not been a part of the plan. I never did think Norris was as much of a sniper as his high percentage shooting seemed to show in the past.

A big defense first right D seems to solve some problems on the penalty kill.

Bad goalies is a tough one. Poor powerplay might just be a one year thing or fixable with Pinto in for the whole year.

Seems like a lot needs to go right next year to avoid the same old, same old.

With a new head coach hopefully coming in next season, we need a new defense coach because the dmen have either tuned out Capuano or it just isn't working. The dmen need a new voice as well.
