It boggles my mind that what Pierre and company did over the years sort of went unnoticed and is now finally rearing its ugly head. This team is handcuffed by so much. We are in for a rough couple of years. Hope not, but as the posters above said, there are loads of untradeable contracts.

hockey is a tad different than other sports. Most moves are felt 2-5 years after.

If you do a poor job of drafting, you will not see it until 4 years later. It is only when that 18 year old is 22 and is either not in the NHL or is a marginal player that you realize. By then, you have had 3 more drafts and thus 10-20 new shiny toys to preoccupy people with (and media is just as bad).

When yo trade or FA sign, it took can take 1-3 years to be felt. To see the damage that that move made.. To see the chain link of events it triggered.. And so, again, by that time you have had 2-3 years of trades and FA signings to give people/media new shiny toys to play with.

Ditto for contracts. Ditto for bad hirings.

AND.. with every move, there is always the, "you have it give it more time to see".. So that if the team signs some guy who is clearly finished and he comes in and craps the bed, everyone still screams, "give it more time".. which then allows more dirt to be thrown over it to cover it up.

We the fans, the media simply do not keep focus and fail to hold people accountable for past issues.. We are very quick to move on to the new shiny toy. And not ask, what has happened with the old.
