New Zealotry and Svarti Daddy have really thrown a wrench in my albums of the year list. Cosmic Atrophy too, Phil Tougas was apart of 5 albums/EPs that released this year

New Vision Divine Single, and holy balls it's so f***ing good. Ivan (Derdian) is a very good replacement and might actually better than Lione for this band. Mike Terrana is also a new addition and it's awesome! But most importantly, more Vision Divine! Huzzah!

I looked at the cover art for that Phlebotomized album and didn't even bother to listen. Looks like something Coal Chamber would have come up with.

Anyway - 2018:

Three albums stood out to me:

1. Nécropole - Solarité
2. Obliteration - Cenotaph Obscure
3. Mortiferum - Altar Of Decay

I think technically the Mortiferum EP was released in 2017 as a demo, but it wasn't pressed on vinyl until 2018 so I'm including it. It scratches that itch for a happy medium between Demilich and Rippikoulu.

Then there were a bunch of other things that were pretty good, but I'm not sure how much staying power they'll have:

Nahtrunar - Mysterium Tremendum
Múspellzheimr - Kolbítr
Drawn and Quartered - The One Who Lurks
Moenen Of Xezbeth - Ancient Spells Of Darkness
Tomb Mold - Manor Of Infinite Forms
Cénotaphe - Horizons
Runemagick - Evoked From Abysmal Sleep
Condemner - Burning The Decadent
Musmahhu - Formulas Of Rotten Death

Demo releases that caught my ear:

Purity Renaissance - Promo 2018
Omegavortex - Promo 2018
Desolation Realm - Desolation Realm
Oldowan Gash - Until The Bees Fly Again...
Oldowan Gash - The Maiden's Tower
Exlimitir - It Weighed Itself In Silver
Cavurn - Demo [This may be a 2017 release, but it's good]

Favourite non-metal releases:

Korridor - End Of Cycle
Inade - The Nine Colours Of The Threshold
Dead Can Dance - Dionysus

Anticipating in 2019:

Antediluvian
Svartrit [maybe?]
Musmahhu - Reign Of The Odious
Cénotaphe - Empyrée
Odz Manouk
Negative Plane
Mitochondrion
Dead Congregation [maybe?]
Departure Chandelier - Antichrist Rise To Power
Volahn
Stargazer
Blood Incantation - Hidden History Of The Human Race
Bone Awl
Eggs Of Gomorrh - Outpregnate

But the fact that the current lineup only shares one member from the 90s makes me heavily suspicious.

Well, Tom Palms did pretty much write all of the music on 'Immense Intense Suspense', so in that sense I'd guess that the idea is pretty much the same. But yeah, some of these re-unions from bands with some cult following seem kind of suspicious in general. Personally, I don't think I will bother to get into the new Phlebotomized album; they kind of had some interesting ideas, but that's pretty much all. The debut is a good album with good ideas but not too note-worthy.

Also, as stated above, the cover art is terrible.

Haiduk - Exomancer (Oct 2018)

-No Clean Singing

"[Haiduk] has perfected his own signature style and very few bands are doing this style."
-Metal-Rules

“Sinister, spiralling, atonal and dark, ‘Exomancer’ is going to be an underrated gem from 2018.”
