Yeah probably this year. What if he won't sign in Vancouver? That's the whole premise behind this. He's going to be a big ticket UFA and would be crazy not to test the market.

The conversation about Miller is assuming he wants to re-sign in Vancouver.

If obviously in the off-season he lets Canuck management know that he will test free agency then the conversation is over and you trade him yesterday.

Cap reality says even if we got Miller at half and sent Lindgren to make cap work, we would still have to deal JT next season as an expiring contract. We could not afford him going forward and can not overpay now and not recover an appreciable amount of what we'd have paid.

ONLY upgrade move for NY is this, exactly:
Lindgren + Jones + 2 1sts + Geo + Strome both retained + Reunanen
for
Chychrun at half

That works b'c it reduces from surplus at LD and does not touch Fs who are not available, and while overpaying, b'c we are getting Chych at half. NY needs to stay away from Miller, Hertl, etc.
Good luck prying chychrun away with that offer. Strome is also a UFA so why would coyotes want him? That offer doesn’t even land you miller, little alone chychrun (your kind of sending them disposable cap dumps).

Chychrun overrated. Miller is better

Miller will re-sign in Vancouver; it will just take extra money and term. Canucks would need to go to a 60 million dollar amount, where some US cities, that Miller would prefer, could pay him much less. I'd see Miller staying in Van for 8.5x7 or 8x8. But the total dollars will be north of 60. And when that contract is over, Miller will be late 30's. A US team would sign him for 6 years and 7 million. Canucks will need to overpay big to keep him. I think.

Chychrun is what 23? He's on a great deal, and has several years left.

His advanced stats #s are just not that good and indicates he was carried by Goligoski.

You guys want to trade more assets for him over Miller and give up Lindgren would make you a worse team. The rangers problem is not their D but their offense. Shesty helps

You're way off about Chychrun. He's an elite talent. Getting carried by Goligoski is a hilarious thought though - don't stare too hard at those spreadsheets.
