I really like Dube. Gun to my head I take him over all our other forward prospects save Jankowski.

I like Mangiapane and Phillips more.

Dube is a better prospect than both. You'll agree after watching this tournament, he's an incredibly fun player to watch. He reminds me a lot of Konecny actually, Dube and Fox were exceptional picks for us.

OKG, I see you through that cloud of smoke.

Dubé is a smart player, but he doesn't have top-6 upside/high offensive potential at the next level. Phillips has that, but is also less likely to progress that far. At the moment they are at the same level. Phillips is just shorter, slightly more productive and much more fun to watch.

At this point Mangiapane is the best of the three AINEC.

As an aside, I expect a solid and encouraging tournament performance from Dubé, but the fact he was picked over Senyshyn, Steel, etc. is just bizarre. Team Canada really loves him for some reason.

I agree that Mangiapane is the best of the three. Phillips is also racking up primary points like crazy I think this far he's been credited with 3 secondary assists, and on top of that last year he relied heavily on the powerplay where as this year he's been very good at even strength.

False, its Dube AINEC.

Absurd statement. You're forgetting that his production this season has probably been hampered by a slow start due to injury. 17 year olds who are PPG in junior easily have high offensive potential. I expect Dube's WHL stats to trend upwards as the season progresses because his skill is there. What really stands out though is his ability to drive play. Shift for shift he is making something happen.

Phillips is just shorter, slightly more productive and much more fun to watch.

I love Phillips, but let's be real. He plays on a team where he is flying the zone often enough to score mostly on the rush (which is also probably correlated to the fact that pretty much ALL his assists are primaries). Dube has a different role on his team where he is the conductor of a five man attack. I believe Dube will have a much easier time transitioning to the pro game where Phillips will hit a road block as a rookie. Both are awesome prospects but Dube is the better prospect in my eyes in terms of playing an all-around game that makes a difference every single shift.

...Yes, the kid who is two draft years older should be the best of the three, and Mangiapane is an awesome prospect.

Ceiling wise though, it's Dube. He has all it takes to allow us to trade a top six guy like Frolik away for cap space.

I seriously think Dube could be a Gallagher type of player for us. He is even more skilled which makes me feel funny when I think about it.

Gallagher has a hell of a net front deflection type game, I'm not sure I've seen that from Dube (yet). It could be developed, though.

Personally, I kind of am reminded of a mini-Justin Williams. Imagine a Tkachuk-Bennett-Dube line in their prime. Could be like Gelinas-Conroy-Iginla in terms of fitting together in grindy games.

I'm not basing my opinion of the likelihood he becomes a top-six forward in the NHL on his point production over a handful of games, but on a combination of his skillset and his point production over his entire WHL career. I do think he could, if all goes right, be a pretty reliable and useful guy in the NHL, but I don't think he has the offensive potential to ever be a 50-point scorer, which is probably what I should have said in the first place.

I don't think you realize how skilled Dube is. If everything goes incredibly right for him, 45-55pts isn't out of the question for him. Pretty much a very good 2nd liner.
