You rush 3, sit 2 in the end zone and the remaining 5 spread out 20 yards off the LOS. Dumb defense right there. Super dumb, they deserved to lose with that lack of situational awareness.

Rant incoming, but every time I attend an NCAA game in person, I come away wondering how they can possibly manage to **** up the game presentation any worse.

This week's special. WCU vs #17 ranked (FCS) Samford. Under a blazing sun with heat so intense that all the old people have now been carted off to the hospital, we crawl through countless "media" timeouts so that we're barely into the 4th quarter, 3 hours after kickoff.

Surprisingly, there's actually some drama left in the building as WCU takes a surprise come-from-behind lead. Before they can even tee the ball for kickoff, the venue announces a 30-minute delay because lightning has been spotted within 9 miles of the stadium. A few minutes later, they clear the stadium of all fans because it has been spotted within 6 miles.

Now I understand the safety element here. You don't want anyone to die from a lightning strike. That's fair. But we are talking about totally evacuating a stadium for what amounts to 15 minutes of vacancy. Meanwhile the fans go to... the parking lot, under giant metal light fixtures.

So to recap, having been gifted an absolutely ideal football game for presentation, the difference between:

A) Reasonably-paced event with potential for fans rushing the field at the end of an unforgettable game

and

B) 4+ hour event that finishes in front of a completely empty venue because virtually everyone decided to just listen to the end on their car radio

... was media timeouts. Media timeouts in a FCS game with like 9K attendance in Cullowhee NC.

And now, with the stadium all but deserted, they've got the teams going back through warmups before they re-start.

They seriously have to figure out how to do this **** so that the stadium experience isn't a total cluster at every level.

That was a nailbiter until it was a heartbreaker.

Rubino didn't help, but I'm also assigning some of the blame to the stupid penalties we took. The undisciplined kind that lets the other team back into the game. Those will kill you every time, and today was no exception.
