What do most people think our biggest needs are going into this draft?

Most people have mentioned it already, but IMO, draft picks. There is a lack of "homegrown" prospects in the system and, for a few years now, the Rangers have been ranked near the bottom of the league in the prospect pool. We all know Gordie and Co. are very good at finding mid/late round gems (ala, Buchnevich, Huska, Graves, Shesterkin, Saarela (TBT), Kovacs, etc.).

Other than picks, I think the primary focus would be defenders, not matter what specialty (offensive, defensive, two-way). This team could use more new faces on the back end.

In reality, though, the Rangers will draft 3 goalies

I think they need to look at centers, although that might be tough without 1st or 2nd. If Tambo ever makes it to the nhl it will likely be at wing, Nieves the same. Fogarty seems to be ideal 4th line c down the road. Then there Morrison who seems to have some skill but is a big if and a couple years from turning pro, or at the least one. There's a huge gap between guys on the big team and someone ready to fill in or push for a spot.

On D Mcilrath and Skjei should grab a spot. Then Graves might be an option in 2017. Andersson is a work in progress but Hughes can probably fill in at the 6 or 7 spot now. Mantha should join Hartford next season, and I think he'll surprise like Graves did. Maybe they sign Smith and he's older so he'd join Hartford too. Zborovisky is there in juniors and comin up, should join Hartford in 2017.

So yes they need some offensive guys on D but also centers. Maybe trade one of the goalies for an equally promisining D.

I was just noting the players that currently aren't owned by an NHL team, but I agree Bear and Kolesar are going to be very very good. Nolan Volcan was solid, as well as Turner Ottenbreit. Their goalie, Landon Bow, is going to attract interest, too.

Yeah, but last year at the World Juniors, all 3 of the Seattle centers were with the Canadian team: Barzal, True and Eansor. Barzal is obviously on everyone's radar since he was a 1st round pick, but the other two have shown they are very talented and are undrafted.

You got a typo, True was on Denmark and Eansor is USA.

Names of a couple players in Europe I'd be interested in pursuing

Yannick Rathgeb
Nick Bailen

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a few years. Watched him at RPI for a few years. Pretty solid player, though I haven't seen him play since 2013 :P

I'm a sucker for seeing players I've seen in-person being picked up by the Rangers.

The way I see it, if NYR cant keep Yandle or get another PMD, the only logical thing to do is to grab a small, quick unproven young Defenseman to play as a #6 and a PP specialist.

Bailen was always an atttention grabbing player in college.

If the Rangers had a top 15 pick this year (for arguments sake let's say the 15th pick) who would you want to take? Let say the obvious players are gone like Matthews, Laine etc etc.

Let's dream for a bit here. In no particular order:

Luke Kunin
Charlie McAvoy
Dante Fabbro
Kiefer Bellows
German Rubtsov
Jake Bean

Pavel Buchnevich

Not knowing exactly who's available, I'd opt for a center or RHD. I believe German Rubtsov might be available at around 15. If he's not, I think Dante Fabbro would be a good selection, Charlie McAvoy wouldn't be bad either. If players like Keller, Brown, Jost slip to 15, I'd consider them.

I'd probably pick Rubtsov though.

The players I liked the most (though not necessarily the most talented players in the draft) were the St. Louis kids - Tkachuk and Kunin.

I'd dare say that anything is possible past the top three picks this year.

Don't think at the current moment they need centers as badly as defenders, but it doesn't hurt to have them in the system.

Think they'll go into the draft open minded, as per usual. Don't be surprised if NYR draft another goalie. They tend to pick BPA in the later rounds, no matter what position.

In no particular order (and also going off of projected picks before #15)...

Luke Kunin
Clayton Keller
Charlie McAvoy
Logan Brown
German Rubtsov
Tyson Jost
Jake Bean

Personally speculation Michael McLeod is going to drop out of the top 10.

We all don't really have to follow the 2018 draft yet, but if you'd like to, I highly highly recommend to start following David Levin. Kid has an incredible story and could be a potential top 5 pick that year.

Is he Jewish? That's a pretty common Russian Jewish last name.
