What's the scouting report on Allison?

Also, what's the deal with Matthew Phillips and Adam Brooks, who I know we had in camp, but I believe is eligible for the draft again?

This is what I said of Allison before...

"Glad you mentioned Allison. For the guys that mentioned that he might benefit from having better players beside him, are wrong. He was a full force for Tri-City for a few seasons now. Offensive weapon, plays PP and PK, lays crushing hits and has above average speed. He's underrated. Maybe mid-lower 3rd round, he still has issues in even strength defense, crisp passing and weight gain. This would be a good reach player for NYR, though."

He also has great hands for a big guy and has a ton of swagger/cockiness.

As for Phillips, he's tiny. Very speedy, has hands, very good passer, IQ is excellent, PP specialist on the wing. Will get eaten up by bigger opponents, though. Needs to gain size, doesn't PK, isn't entirely effective defensively and has an annoying voice (lol). I'd pass on him. Reminds me of a tinier St. Croix.

As for Brooks, I'm pretty positive this is his last year of eligibility. Had a break out year this year offensively. Great IQ, passing ability and all around offense. Decent speed and drives to the net for most of his goals. Getting better defensively, still needs work at it. Not entirely physical. I would select him in the 6th or 7th round.

Physical winger with good hands and is great around the net. Uses his body extremely well. Hard forechecker with good speed, but a slow first step. Was named MVP of the West team at the USHL top prospects game going 1+1. Has shown immense improvement offensively this season and had a monster playoff. Won the MVP in the Clark Cup with 16 points in 11 games, including 9 goals.

His counter part, Ross Colton, won the MVP of the East in that game, too. Another highly considered prospect. Headed to University of Vermont next year.

I agree we've had success there, but that alone isn't enough for me to pass on Allison in favor of Day. Maybe just cross our fingers and hope we can get both in the 3rd.

Wasn't knocking Allison, I wouldn't mind his selection. Just think that Day has had more time in juniors and had better exposure than Allison.

But agreed.

If somehow the Rangers acquire a first, two names I would love are Tyson Jost and Clayton Keller.

Keller is a magician. Great feet. Would fit right in with Tampa's lineup.

I want to like P-L Dubois so much (why though? He is going top 10 for sure) but he is just a bit too lumbering for me.

Edit: I should probably just stop. I was sold on the rumors of Talbot going for a mid First last year. When Barzal was falling, and heard Gary announce a pick traded to the New York...Islanders I think I blacked out.

I've been dealing with that myself.

Every time I see DLB, I find that I just don't like him as much as the other talents at the top of the draft.

Maybe I'm biased, but I can't shake visions of Alexandre Picard or Steve Bernier. He reminds me of several players with roughly the same skill set who struggled to adjust to the pros over the years.

IF NYR gets a 1st, there would be plenty of names to look at. Jost and Keller are some of the names I would want, too, as well as Luke Kunin, Mikhail Sergachev, Logan Brown, German Rubtsov, etc.

So here are my one month early BOLD PREDICTIONS for the draft at the end of June....

(Mind you, I will probably do another one of these when the draft is closer)

- Dubois will go 3rd overall

- Puljujarvi falls to the latter part of top 10, but won't fall out of the top 10.

- Rangers will get a 1st rounder in a Nash trade

- Juolevi is the 1st defender taken

- Toronto will stick with No. 1 and select Matthews

- Stamkos will sign extension with Tampa before draft

- Yakupov and Barrie get moved at the draft

- Oilers trade 4th overall for a top 4 defender. Won't slot back in the 1st, though

- Steal of the draft is Clayton Keller at 15th overall to the Wild

- No goalies selected in the 1st, but Fitzpatrick is the first pick of the 2nd round

- The surprise fall out of the 1st round is Michael McLeod

- The surprise reach in the 1st round is Sean Day

Thoughts?

Why do you think Puljujarvi drops so much?

Oilers are going to trade the 4th overall pick for just a top 4 dman? Ok cool, so give them Klein for that 4th.

I've had Dubois 4th for a long time now after Laine, Matthews and Chychrun, but if Puljujarvi falls, I think Dubois could go third. Columbus needs a center, and Dubois can play center.

Puljujarvi probably won't fall, but I currently have him 7th. I don't think he's as finished of a product as people think.

I don't think Tampa will be able to able to re-sign Stamkos. They have so many players that need contracts this season and will in the next few seasons. Yakupov and Barrie might both get moved, Oilers might trade their 1st. I don't think Keller gets to 15. I think he'll be picked towards the end of the top 10.

I think there's a chance Hart gets picked in the first, but I think there's also a chance no goalies go in the first. McLeod could really drop. I don't think anyone will take Day in the first. Maybe early second.

On Dubois... Agreed.

On Puljujarvi... 7th means latter part of the top 10. So agreed. ;)

On Stamkos... I don't think so. He's easily their best scorer and has been for a long time now. They'll be able to sign Kucherov for a short term deal and then be able to extend him after that. They could easily get other players under contract, too, like Killorn, Namestnikov, Paquette. Think they'll trade a guy or two to make room.

On Hart, McLeod & Day... I think Fitzgerald is the better talent out of the two. If not Fitzgerald, the first goalie taken is the Swedish netminder, Filip Gustavsson. Agreed on McLeod, but I could definitely see some team over viewing Day's "exceptional player" status and selecting him early. Even if he isn't a 1st round talent.

Wouldn't call the Toronto opinion that bold, Matthews seems like the consensus pick going #1 for them.

Puljujarvi being super-talented doesn't make him an automatic top 3 pick. Sean Day has first round talent, doesn't mean he deserves to be picked there. Puljujarjvi isn't as far along as a third overall pick should be. Its a project pick. There's a lot of risk with taking him third, although it might be a good risk because of the upside he has.

No risk at all, he's got pretty much everything offensively, has size and skating, he'll play at the top level sooner rather than later.
