I usually can't stand Tripp, but have to admit, I got a kick out of his "plinko, Bob Barker" reference on the Gerbe goal.

He's a wackadoodle for sure but I find John balances it out with his superb PBP

Forslund sure does make up for Tripp and I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't stand the guy most of the time, though he does come out with the occasional good one.

Watched the Flyers-Canes tonight and had to use the Carolina stream and I could not stand this guy. Why does he still have a job?

Tripp drives me crazy sometimes with the off the wall **** he says but honestly I wouldn't trade him for any other color guy.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here it probably has but as a Sabres fan living in NC that watches lots of Canes games hearing "Seck-ur-a" is just weird. Even weirder is that Jeannerett pronounces it "Suh-care-uh" and that's wrong too? So misunderstood that Andrej Sekera.

How does Chuck Kaiton pronounce it? He reportedly takes great care in ensuring he pronounces every players name correctly, even if it is different than how people have pronounced it in the past. I would guess that however Chuck pronounces it, is correct.

My last name gets pronounced incorrectly 90% of the time since I moved south. I don't correct it any longer as it's just not worth the time, but people still are saying incorrectly. I would imagine that if 5 years down the road, everybody started pronouncing it correctly, it would seem weird to those that have known me all along.

He says "SEK-er-a", with a bit of accent in the R. It's almost Sekeda, if that helps describe the way he says the R.

Having watched the Flyers feed for that game, I'm not surprised having a color guy that actually talks and a PbP guy that seems interested in the game would be a bit of a shock.

Supposedly John Forslund, who is a real pro's pro pbp guy, asks these guys personally what they've been called historically and what they want to be called in Carolina. A lot of Euro guys don't even bother to correct mispronunciations if they're remotely close. In the case of Sekera, what Forslund now calls him is what he requested to be called at the start of the season.

I'm pretty sure that Chuck pronounces the names the way a linguist might pronounce them, with little to no interest in what the player himself actually wants to be called. I believe he tries to stay true to the roots of the name, country of origin, and other factors. He doesn't Americanize names the way that most PBP guys and even the players themselves seem to do. I think that's more John's philosophy. If a player wants it said a certain way, it's probably John's way that the player wants.

I can't listen to it on this computer, but if I'm remembering right the link What the Faulk posted above is Sekera himself pronouncing it, so that should put it to rest. They posted all of the players pronouncing their own names on the website at the beginning of the season.

Sort of like how Chuck pronounces Dvorak like the composer while John goes with the standard pronunciation we've heard for so long.
