I go for a chest and body scan tomorrow afternoon.
My dad died of lung cancer. My sister currently has lung cancer.

Although I dont smoke anymore I did for decades.
My Docs want a looksee and baseline.
You could say I have some anxiety over this.
Wally,
I am sending good thoughts. You are wise to be checked.

With me I have pain in my shoulder down through my elbow and into my hand. A few of my fingers are going numb. It's like when you hit your elbow and get a intense brief pain only it goes on all day. They called me and are sending me to a specialist. I have arthritis in my neck that is bothering a nerve. We will see... being on a computer all day doesn't help

Wally....not saying this because it's what I do and am not trying to solicit, but have you ever had your home tested for radon ? It is the 2d leading cause of lung cancer in the US, leading among non smokers.

Please consider testing if you haven't to help further reduce your risk

The concept is creative but the execution by Dratch ruins it. Far too over the top. I'm fine with Krasinski, Evan and Papi
First time I've ever seen it, was painful to watch. I hate the hollywood-over-the-top-boston-accent move; real sick of it.

So I had my first MRI last night. I almost pushed the panic button as I am a bit claustrophobic.

I tried to listen to the music and meditate but I had to keep my eyes closed and even with ear plugs and headphones on the noise is very loud.

I talked myself out of my panic attack but was very happy when the attendant said "only 4 more min"
I counted the 240 seconds.

MRI is horrible and I also had it for a shoulder....in fact they screwed it up so I had to go back for a repeat.
I hate the sides of the tube touching me. making you feel even more squeezed.

The did what they call an open MRI, which looks basically like a bagel, but they still bring it down within a few inches of your face....my advice.....once you lay down never open your eyes until its completely over.

Mine ended up being the bicep tendon where they cut out a section and reattach it with a screw.....took 18 months to be able to raise my arm over my head again

They pulled a cage (kind of like what a hockey player with a broken jaw would wear) down over my face before they put me in the tube and it freaked me out. I kept my eyes closed the whole time.

It is silly because they don't hurt you but I started to have a panic attack (which is not normal for me) right away. I was real close to pushing that button and getting out. I listened to music but it didn't help much. The noise is so loud.

I hope I won't have t o do it again but if I do I am getting drugs first

I always find when you are stuck in there, your nose starts to itch, a hair tickles your ear, you get a cramp or you suddenly realize you need to go to the bathroom even though you just did 10 minutes ago

They told me not even to lick my lips if they were dry unless it was a break in the banging noise.

I feel like such a wimp as it is quite silly. The woman who was the machine operator told me there are times when someone who thinks they will be fine freak out once they are in that tunnel.

I am happy I didn't push that button because I needed to get the MRI done.

I was in 2nd period German. Stunned silence for most of the rest of the period.
I walked into my freshman high school Spanish class and someone had written on the blackboard....yes, it was actually black with chalk and everything :wally: ..... that the shuttle had exploded. We thought someone was trying to be an idiot making something up like that, then the teacher walked in and told us it was true. :(

I always loved the shuttles though. Someday I'd like to go see one of them in the museums.

When I visited my son in NYC in Oct, we went to the USS Intrepid Museum, and they actually have the Enterprise there. It was just used for glide and aerodynamic testing, but gives you a real sense of the scale of the orbiters.

I hope you don't have to have another one, but if you do, you could just pretend you are Chara and could rip the machine apart with your bare hands if you wanted to. :D

Here is a visual for you

It seems silly since they were essentially all the same, but Discovery was my favorite.

RIP Jack Burns of the great comic team Burns and Schreiber (yeah only us old timers remember these guys)

This routine was one of my all time favorites. The timing and chemistry they had was great.

“Must have been a lot of jokes about him”

“I don’t recall any”

And of course, the famous “Huh” “ Yeah” back and forth.

He also started out with George Carlin (maybe some of you young ‘uns know of him) and an original writer for Sesame Street

Jack Burns, 'The Muppet Movie' and 'Muppet Show' Writer, Dies at 86

I actually watched the Muppet Movie again a few weeks ago. First time in literally a couple decades. Loved it as a kid... Now, not so much. They sure did have a lot of big names in that movie, for its time.

That's also the first ever movie that I remembered a joke from... When Kermit almost got run over by a steamroller while riding his bike and said he was almost "gone with the Schwinn." :help:

Went back and watched video of one of Discovery's landings. It's amazing, you watch it gliding down and even though the person says how fast they are traveling, it doesn't seem like it. Then you hear the double sonic booms. Then more gliding, then the landing gear kicks down less than 30 seconds before touchdown. Which makes me wonder what the contingency was if they ever had a landing gear malfunction. It's not like that thing was a fighter jet that could just circle around again. I guess just belly flop and hope for the best?

They were amazing pieces of machinery though.

Okay, sorry y'all, I'm nerding out on the space shuttle. Found this article about how they trained the astronauts to land it:

"STA training is all about producing a familiar path through the sky for the astronauts," Nickel said. "No matter the height of the astronaut, we put their eyes at a consistent height so when they fly the Shuttle, the view looks familiar. We even mask off the windows to match the view from a Shuttle."

The STA flies at the same speeds, dive angle and approach trajectory as the Shuttle. But simulating that "falling brick" feeling is a delicate maneuver.

"To accomplish that, we lower the main gear of the STA and put the engines in reverse thrust," he said. "You know when a commercial plane lands and you're thrown forward after the wheels touch down? We do that at 30,000 feet."

o_O   :amazed:
