Regarding tv series, movies & mini series based on books: I expect the show/movie to follow the book. Not necessarily word for word but certainly very close to the story. I can't stand it when the producers/directors want to put their own "creative interpretation" on the air.

The best mini series I've ever watched all followed the books they were based on very closely: "Shogun", "The Thorn Birds", "Winds of War" (all done in the early 80s) "Band of Brothers" was very good too. "Call The Midwife" is a tv series based on a series of books and it is excellent as well. I don't get HBO so I haven't seen "Game Of Thrones".

The Harry Potter movies were true to the books as well.
