As of right now i would like to see something along these lines(Assuming Skinner and Faulk stay).
Forwards:
TT - Aho - Svechnikov
Ferland - Staal - Williams
Skinner - Necas - Maenalanen
Martinook - Rask - Zykov
Extras: McGinn, PDG

Defense:
Slavin - Hamilton
DeHaan - Pesce
Faulk - TVR
Extras: Fluery

Goalies:
?(Such an unknown at this point)

Think slavin and DeHaan could flip spots if breaking him and pesce up proves to not be good.
Think a faulk trade should be explored more heavily than a skinner trade as faulk is blocking fluery now. We have the depth to cover the loss of faulk.

Maenalanen and Zykov in and McGinn being an extra? I don't see that at all. In fact, would be very surprised to not see McGinn in the top 9 to start the season. He's earned it IMO.

I'd probably start with Aho and Teravainen together, but I think they can play on separate lines just fine. Chemistry doesn't always carry over from one season to the next, as we've seen. Also, if it's possible to make two effective lines spreading them out, rather than one keeping them together, it's worth a shot.

I think Aho can have chemistry with just about anyone, but I'm not sure TT can play as effectively away from Aho as he does with Aho. At some point, we'll find out.

McGinn is a more talented LaRose. He’s going to get minutes.
Weird as it is to say I actually have more confidence in McGinn to stick in our top 9 this year then I do with Ferland, though it remains to be seen how Ferland plays here yet.

As of right now in terms of depth I'd say:

Zykov - Aho - Teravainen
Ferland - Staal - Svechnikov
Skinner - Necas - Williams
Martinook - Rask - McGinn
PDG

Kuokkanen - Wallmark - Maenalanen
Foegele - McKegg - Gauthier
Saarela - Poturalski - Geekie
Lorentz - Bishop - Brown

to start out but I wouldn't be in the least surprised to see Ferland and McGinn switch depending on which one gets off to a hotter start. And obviously the AHL lines will be a bit more mixed up then that.

If Teravainen is going to have some massive drop off away from Aho, which I don't think, but some do, we need to find that out this season before his contract is up. We shouldn't sign someone to a massive deal in that scenario.

Don't expect a "massive" drop, because TT is growing and developing as a player and in confidence in his own right. I just don't think he'll be quite as effective away from Aho as he is with him. I think we'll find that out this season because even if they start together, I don't expect it to be that way all season.

I think the chances of Skinner being on the roster opening night are VERY slim. Only question is when Skinner (and Faulk) get moved, is there an NHL forward coming back.
Literally has to be if Skinner's on his way out. Makes me think the talk of a package deal with Chicago for both Skinner and Faulk has more basis in reality then any other possibility since the deal around Faulk, Darling, Saad, and the Hossa contract at the draft fell through.

Aside from keepting Aho/TT together talk I really think TT is much less effective on the LW than the RW. I feel like his goal scoring depends on him shooting from the right circle.

That puts TT, Svech, and Williams as RW with Ferland the obvious choice for the 4th line with Aho, Skinner, McGinn, Zykov on the LW.

I also think we should be higher on Zykov....the guy can get in front of the net and knows his role. He's as greasy as they come like Holmstrom or Hornqvist and has size to stand in front of the net. Those were 50ish point players he's in the mold of and they suck to play against.

I also think it's a huge waste of what I've observed Svechnikov's play making abilities to put him with Stone hands Staal. He needs to be with someone with a much better shot. Williams can fill that RW slot and put up his 20g and 30a either way....you probably don't want to give Svech that much defensive responsibility either this early.

I think a lot of the lines depend on if Aho/Necas play C effectively or not so I'll take a stab.

Zkyov - Aho - TT
McGinn - Staal - Williams
Skinner - Necas - Svech
PDG/Martinook - Rask - Ferland

I also don't hate the idea of Pesce + Futures for a 60+ point youngish center if Faulk can't fetch one. We have tons of depth on the right side now anyway. Nylander, Trocheck, ???....I would not move Pesce for a Duchene type though.

Slavin - Hamilton
CDH - Faulk
Fleury - TVR
Bean - Fox

Skinner + Faulk for DeBrindecat + ???

.....does that work? who doesn't do it.

I’d agree with that. I don’t have major reservations about Ferland necessarily, but there’s a significant chance he goes Tlusty on us. Guy who was in a great situation for one year, put up very promising numbers as a result of environment, gets out of that situation and flatlines as just an “ok” but easily replaceable plug. I’m hoping for more, but it wouldn’t shock me to see him do that.

I don’t have those reservations about McGinn. He is what he is... not as talented as most guys but he plays a role here.
