I take this approach more with the forwards. Which is why I am far more in favor of the short-term RWs (Hudler, Stempniak, Vrbata) than the big-ticket guys (Okposo, Backes, et al.) who'll get big term and be terrible contracts in 2-3 years.

Backes is the one guy that would tempt me to get stupid on 7/1.

I take that approach as well, but man do I want Backes. There are also virtually no chances to improve our d aside from trades. We need to do something to address our D to make the playoffs next year.
