Oakland A's to play in Sacramento for a few years while Las Vegas stadium is built

The cab driver I was talking to a month or so ago when I was in Vegas was saying how the Knights are a huge success because they're a brand new team, unique to Las Vegas. The Raiders, no one gives a shit about because they're just some relocation team with their own history and fans already.

Probably a nothing opinion but I don't see how this'll be any different for the A's. Especially if they're going to continue to be a low budget team that's rarely good and almost never a threat to win a championship.
It'll be even worse because people won't fly to Vegas for 81 baseball games, but they will for a weekend vacation and watch their home team play the raiders

This letter is an embarrassment. If I'm the city of Oakland I wait until around mid March and then find a way to say FU to Fisher and the MLB. Condemn the stadium? Cut off their utilities? Tear up the roads to it? Make the losers play 162 road games for a year. About what the league deserves.

I'm a big baseball fan, probably more than hockey. I knew in my bones the A's in Oakland were all but done last year. But the way MLB has handled this is truly gobsmacking. They really do not know how to handle relocations.

Bit of hyperbole for sure but I've heard more locals say they'd rather Vegas taxpayer money build the stadium in Oakland just so they don't get A's .

Vegas is Vegas born, of vegas for vegas, and both the Raiders and A's unless you were already a fan, being in Vegas isn't going change it if your not. The Raiders especially are already just another California team... on location in Vegas, instead of a Vegas team.

they have ben done for awhile. THis is not just about how MLB handled but the city of Oakland and the state of California played a hard line on so many topics and then you have the local residents that also fought against most of the things that the As wanted to do.

for people who should be blamed for this? MLB is way down the list. This move has been brewing for 3 years.

Never look at this as 81 away games. It’s usually 27 3-game series with some variations (several 4-game series). Fans who make treks will usually watch the whole 3-4 game set.
Which makes the A’s very much like the Raiders. Vegas is a small market and John Fisher can get away fans.

Not a surprise for this franchise.

They didn't give a shit about fan loyalties when they left their fan base in Philadelphia, then when they left their fan base in Kansas City, and soon when they leave their fan base in Oakland.

All about return on investment for these jokers. Fans are just suckers to them.

Capacity compared to Mullett is irrelevant, ballparks are bigger. Both are around 25% of the average capacity of their league's venues.
The biggest difference is Mullet is a de facto permanent home for the Coyotes. They have no plan in place to move into a permanent arena. They have hopes and dreams but that's it.

At least the A's have actual plans.

And I can't imagine if Fisher doesn't sell, on field product will be any different. Leopards don't really change their spots.

Exactly, Nobody who lives here has embraced the Raiders, and nobody will embrace the A’s. The NHL did it right with an expansion team. Locals already despise all the Cali transplants moving here ruining the culture and economics of the region, and Cali transplant teams are no better and just as hated. Not to mention literally nobody living here wants to deal with the obvious traffic disaster 81 times per year that will be a baseball stadium at the Tropicana site in the middle of the strip. They haven’t even broken ground and most people here are already pissed.

from what i understand..

Vegas sports teams shouldnt have an issue making money - but instead drawing consistent crowds

tickets can be bought by hotels and casinos and given out to customers; so even if a game is half crowded, it likely is sold out or close to it

As a Rockies fan, I know all about how utter shit some owners can truly be. My condolences to all A's fans. Just rest easy knowing they'll likely wither on the vine like the Raiders do with constant "home" games.
