I bet the next move is to play in Las Vegas next year at the Aviators stadium. They will have to try something to get momentum for public funds which are going to be an absolute dogfight for. New governor isn't a sap to the unions who were the main force behind the public funding for Allegiant.

Man this is just depressing. When the Thrashers got canned it was nothing because the team sucked during all those years and the fanbase never got a chance to grow.

The As have a rich history that includes 6 WS appearances (4 titles) and plenty of other solid seasons including the moneyball year. They have a great fanbase that doesn’t deserve this, especially after losing the Raiders.

If the team was solid but nobody cared I’d get it but the owner is intentionally running the team into the ground to facilitate relocation.

Both. Vegas will give him much more for a stadium and the team will likely be more profitable

Oh, they are SO getting public money.

Yes and no. There's no income tax in Nevada so it wont be as simple as a straight cut of the pool. Most likely it'll be a combo of tax breaks and the resort fee pool (like what the Raiders got)

Sad, but inevitable. The city of Oakland's got a bunch of problems, and if it were up to them, they'd keep a team, but they're not going to write a billion dollar check to a billionaire just so he'll keep a team in town that may make the playoffs once or twice a decade. Fans are, naturally, going to be outraged and demand that they should have done so, but if you're a local politician that still has some integrity, you had to be realistic.

Fisher has always seemed to believe that Vegas was the better option, right from the start. He just hoped that Oakland would break and give him, like, $3 billion and all the tax breaks in the world to stay in town, but the town refused to budge.

I'm just more concerned about how Vegas is going to support three major sports teams and all the minor leagues with a small media market and a population that's, to be honest, very poor.

Wasn't even a decade ago that LV was considered taboo for a sports team. Now they're 3 for 4 on major league teams, with an NBA team all but inevitable.

It is stuff like this that gives me a grudging appreciation for Bettman's position vis à vis relocation. It's heartbreaking seeing established franchises pack up and move town in search of a better meal ticket.

"No new taxes" Lombardo. New tax district that would reinvest sales tax in that district. $500m in tax credits, but no "cash" planned to be paid. 400k additional visitors to the valley expected.

Red Rock, aka Station Casinos, has been demolishing a number of casinos around the valley, some that closed at the start of the pandemic and were never reopened. That includes this site of the Wild Wild West Casino. (Texas Station is razed. Fiesta Rancho is currently being demolished. Haven't been in Henderson to see the status of the Fiesta Henderson casino scheduled for demo. And their new SW casino Durango has a new tower landmark (I think they've reached the top of the structure, but have a lot to do to interior to finish it).

I would imagine they won't play in Oakland for a few years before leaving like the Raiders did. Probably best to get away ASAP.

I am looking at A's attendance. They were a dynasty in the 70's and didn't draw well. They never drew 3 million fans in a large market area. I think the support has been a bit overstated. Otherwise, they don't lose the Raiders twice and A's.

Saw it on my Instagram search feed. I legit thought it was an April fools joke from a couple weeks back! Not very surprising but still pretty shocked.

Interestingly, this now makes the NHL the only league in the Big 4 that all the teams that have won a championship in the modern era are still located in the same market.
