I guess it depends on the view of Kakko, but this really makes very little sense for Montreal.
I don't think Kakko is a bust and he may find another level or two as well, but he has almost 300 games in the regular season and playoffs. Odds are he's just going to be a defense first winger. Which has value, but he's not what a team like Montreal would target in a trade. Its irrelevant that Goodrow has a comparatively decent buyout (5 years 1 mil + dead cap space isn't good), its unlikely that Montreal or any rebuilding team would be willing to take his contract right now. Maybe in 2025, but not now. Jones has been, by some margin, the worst Ranger this season and Montreal has a ton of young LD they'd rather be playing in the NHL and AHL. And Pitlick is a throw in.
