Will Byram ever play an NHL game again?

Sounds like hes legit scared to play now, he's been cleared for over a week.

The jumping to conclusions about Byram is getting absurd. I feel it's better to just stop speculating (I realize this is a forum board) and just wait for more info instead of trying to dissect/overanalyze ANYthing that is being said. Help could mean anything from a concussion specialist to sports psychologist.

With that being said though, I think it's painfully obvious it's still concussion related even if Bednar said it wasn't a NEW concussion.

Bowen Byram admits that he contemplated ending his hockey career due to concussion concerns | Markerzone.com

He came close to not coming back last year. Looks like early retirement, if he was thinking that last year imagine now.

The comments in Baugh's article state Byram was afraid he'd never be able to get past his concussion symptoms in order to play hockey again. It's a huge f***ing leap to go from that to 'Byram is afraid to play hockey'. People need to stop jumping to conclusions from Bednar using the words 'getting help' with no context. We have no idea what's going on with Byram other than he's been attending Avs home games.

His recent concussion didn't seem that bad, which gives me hope that the team is just taking extra precautions. It's not like he took a headshot from Scott Stevens. He'll be back sooner than later.

Just found out Toews is f***ing out until the 27th bc of COVID protocols??? God I am so f***ing tired of this shit. It's always our best players, why the f*** couldn't it be Jost or literally any other of the plugs we have. f*** this. Okay, I think I've got that out of my system. No, wait, one more. f***. Okay.

The severity of the blow to the head really doesn't have anything to do with it. Sidney Crosby more or less lost an entire NHL season because of an innocuous collision with Dave Steckel.

Vulnerability to concussions and one's ability to recover from PCS varies from individual to individual.

To be completely fair, he skated more at practice in the early days of last season's concussion than he has so far during this season's. We haven't seen Byram on the ice since December 3rd. 11 days now.

My optimism for Byram's future is rock bottom right now and it's killing my overall Avs enthusiasm unfortunately. Byram getting injured so much wouldn't be so hard if he wasn't so f***ing awesome when he's healthy.

Some of these comments on this board shows how little people understand about concussions.

From the reports from Bednar and other sources, it sounds like Byram isn't dealing with post-concussion symptoms like dizziness, but moreso the side effects like depression.

Depression is common after a concussion, it's normal for people to have those types of thoughts (and even higher in athletes). It's often a life-altering injury, can you imagine being in Byram's situation, at his age? He's worked his whole life to play in the NHL, get's there, and then has multiple concussions in the same season. It's a huge punch in the gut going from that high of making to the NHL, to being at the low of feeling like your whole career being destroyed, not to mention lingering affects. Honestly, it sounds like Byram is recovering fine and getting the help he needs, he'll come out of this stronger. Concussions will always be a scare once you have multiple, but I'm positive Byram will get through this, especially since it sounds like he's getting professional help.

Researchers have reported that depression is relatively common after brain injury, but most investigators have focused on moderate to severe TBI or have not differentiated among levels of severity.10 Furthermore, few researchers have examined the effect of preinjury depression levels on postinjury depression symptoms. Busch and Alpern11 summarized 12 studies on depression after TBI and showed the prevalence of depression after concussion was at least 35%. Rapoport et al10 found a 15% prevalence of major depression after mild TBI. After all severities of TBI, the prevalence of major depression was 14% to 29%.10,12,13 Researchers1417 examining emotional responses to sport-related concussion also have reported increased levels of depression in athletes after concussive injury.

Our last game before covid was first a thing was at home against the Rangers. I get the feeling history is going to repeat itself.

Toews out? Might as well have all the regulars take the night off because there is no hope for a W without him.
