Meh, this probably is good for Nurse in the end. Now he will have a reputation around the league as being a crazy mofo.

yeah i doubt anyone calls his bluff anymore, if nurse says imma punch your nose off chances are probably pretty good he will punch your nose off

:shakehead C'mon man. JG has absolutely nothing to do with this. If Nurse did something of this ilk to someone like JG I would lose all respect for him, not to mention the league would likely sit him for a very long time. JG is 5'9" and weighs a good 50 pounds less than Nurse and exclusively plays a skilled game. Polak at least has previously shown that he fights and is a tough mofo.

Polak is a tough mofo. But he is a spot picker just like Bieksa. Not a coincidence that they both have jumped Stalberg in the past to act like tough guys. If Nurse did that to JG he would be a dirtbag just like Bieksa and Polak

My gut says that this is the right call because what Nurse did is a head shot on an unwilling combatant. You can't have guys going around beating people up who aren't willing.

That said, the NHL is inconsistent. What Nurse did is no different from what Domi did, and Domi only got one game. The fact that there is blood...doesn't matter. You should never penalize the result, only the act. The acts are the same.

Does the inconsistency surprise me? Absolutely not. The NHL's on-ice officials are taking their lead from the governing body. They are extremely inconsistent in making a call from play to play without the benefit of instant replay. Then, when they are given the opportunity to use instant replay on a challenge, the call is basically a coin flip as they again are inconsistent. Why should we expect any different from the league who has precedent and time on their side? The way the league is policed and governed now is an absolute joke. I can't even recognize the on-ice officials anymore. I used to know every official in the league, referees and linesmen. I can't hardly name one anymore.

It really is too bad too, as I believe the on-ice product has never been better, but not a game goes by that I don't get infuriated by poor officiating, and I'm not talking about just Oiler games, I'm talking about every game I watch in the NHL, Junior, and otherwise.

This post got shut down almost immediately on the main board earlier. Not sure if there's been other clearer examples but this series of screen shots of the Hendrick's incident is pretty darn clear:

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=2044801

Well that definitely shows very clearly that Polak did injure Hendricks with a very reckless and dangerous trip. Guess that wasn't appreciated and didn't fit that narrative of the posters on the other thread, who's reaction to it was just plain ignorance.

Lots of tweeters in the twittersphere also cannot see it even when its broken down frame by frame.

Just people that should not be on a jury, ever.

I've been saying it since last night. Simply need to slow down the HD video and you can see pretty plainly Polak's stick hits Hendi...I have no idea why others can't see it..

I don't understand how Domi's attack doesn't fit this description. Watch the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7gu4gt_hi8

To me, the difference between these two incidents is that Nurse is able to do damage when he fights and Domi can't. Nurse hurt Pollack with the first punch and Domi never came close to causing any damage. It may have also helped Domi that the officials broke up his fight much quicker than the idiots that broke up Nurses fight. We were complaining about the officials all night during that game. Maybe if they'd done a better job things wouldn't have escalated so fast.

The rule book defines the aggressor as the player who "intends to inflict punishment" the rules don't see any difference between the two plays. But I agree about the officials for sure.

Except the next time he does it he will get a seven game suspension and the next time after that he will get fifteen. I don't think we'll see him mugging players too often from here on out. He probably wants to stay in the league and make money.

All he's gotta do is wait an extra 3 seconds to make sure the other player takes his glove off.

I'm fine with three but Domi getting only one for Bertuzzing someone is idiotic

Are you really surprised that Arizona's popular, hot shot rookie only got one game? It's the same as Colin Campbell deciding the suspension on his own kid.

I'm willing to bet that Nurse's previous badassery was used against him to add the extra game. The league wants to do everything it can to stop fighting from be celebrated.

He loses a lot of his value as an enforcer when he can't enforce unless his victim agrees to it though

True. The league has made it so that dirty players and cheap shot artists are protected. Instead of protecting good players from dirty players.

Exactly. Exactly.

And that's why I hope I'm never accused of a major crime. Up to 12 potentially very unintelligent people deciding your fate. Bound to be a few that condemn you based on how you look, alone.

Nurse can't even get a fair trial by judge alone.

Hope they pass the collection plate around the locker room.

Avery used to turtle every time someone came wailing on him for a dirty hit. Did those guys who punched a turtling Avery also get suspended? When Polak turtled I immediately thought "Avery".

It used to be a right of passage to wail on him when he turtled. How far we've come!

Complete bullcrap. I hope when we play SJ again Nurse lights Polak up just as bad if Polak decides to square up.

Knowing what a stand up guy Hendricks is he probably had a cheque waiting in Nurse's locker as soon as the suspension was announced.
