So I decided to include for this all the games that begin between 11:30 am and 4:00 pm local venue game time. I wonder that who decides these, as the amount of games fluctuate quite wildly between several teams. For example, Leafs play only ONE daytime game, whereas Flyers play a whopping 19 of them. Do teams generally like to avoid these games? Does Toronto get to pick and choose their starting times first?

It boils down to who has prime time hence the Leafs, Habs and Crosby with little matinee games!!!

The Leafs don't pick their times. Canadian broadcasters do and want them in primetime as much as possible.
You do know the biggest broadcaster in Canada is a partial owner of the Leafs right?

Although them also owning the Raptors, has done nothing to help with their crappy scheduling.

Afternoon games suck
Ya I agree.

That said they should be evened out a little.

You can’t ask some teams to play in 10!of them and have a team with 1. That’s getting in to favouritism territory

Why do the Flyers play 19 but the Pens get 3 lol
Without looking it up, they probably host most of them. I know I always have to suffer theough 11AM Oiler games when they're in Philly.

Why there is so little love for these? Flyers certainly seem to like afternoon games.

The West
It's not a good hockey time when it doesn't end with a bunch of empties and dozing off on a comfy couch or easy chair.

Best part of that chart is that the Leafs one “daytime” start is a 4pm start in Vancouver so that it’s on in prime time in the east.
Asking Canucks fans how they feel about dropping the puck at 4 local time on a Saturday is by far my favourite thing to ask as I make my way to my seats among them.
