If we happen to keep Dubnyk past this season Nashville will again have the tallest goal tending tandem in the league. I think Poile/Trotz/Korn like big goalies.

This is an epic trade. Wish it had come about like a month ago, but hey, these things take time. We offload a redundant, overpaid player and get an NHL level netminder out of the deal. Poile's off my crap list for now. All Trotz now.

At worst preds dumped Hendricks awful contract for Dubnyk to ride the pine and relieve maz every couple of games at 1/2 price for the end of the season

at best Mitch Korn works his magic and Dubnyk becomes a serviceable NHL GK

Win-win for preds.

Oiler fan here. Here is what you are getting with Dubnyk. He has been quite bad this year other than a few good games. Last year he was quite good overall. He cannot carry the load for any length of time, he always performed best as the guy challenging for playing time but each time he played well enough to be thought of as a #1 has fizzled.

Overall it's tough to evaluate tenders in Edmonton because the defense and forward defensive play is atrocious Most games.

Boy have we got a deal for you :naughty:

Don't get the Korn will turn Dubnyk around talk. Dubnyk is a UFA this offseason. Doubt he'll stick around long enough for Korn to 'fix him'. His numbers may go up a little playing in a more defensive system with better defenders but he isn't a long term solution. He'll add some competition to our backups we have starting right now. The main thing is we got rid of Hendricks's contract, which was really bad for us.

I could absolutely see Dubnyk getting re-signed here this offseason. We only drafted Maz two years ago, and the AHL could do him some good. Rinne will (I assume) be back next year, but with Hutton most likely gone, who is our backup? Dubnyk won't be in any position to demand a big deal, but if he looks like an ok backup for us, bring him back for, say, 2 years @ 1mil per to play behind Rinne. Maz and Hellberg battle it out in Milwaukee for starts and once they are ready, in about two years, they supplant Dubnyk.

Food for thought regarding Forsberg

(1/2) Something to consider: NHL teams received a memo prior to season saying that a player who plays more than 15 of 20 games prior to...

2/2) Olympic break cannot be assigned to AHL during break. Strome move clearly made w/ eye to having him play during break. #Isles

I can see that being the case of DD plays well enough. Imagine if DD signed here last July instead of Hutton to be the back-up, certainly we'd all be some what happier with his experience than with Hutton's 1 game.

As long as it's 1-2 years max to hold the fort while Maz/Hellberg/Sauros come up I won't be mad.

Wish Poile could have been a nice swell feller and threw in Eric Nystrom as well.

The Nystrom contract isn't that bad when not paired with the Hendricks one. Having both of those for 4 years was an issue. Nystrom has been more effective for sure.

I could see it. Gives us some flexibility. Korn won't do wonders for Dubnyk this season however.

Agreed, though I do see Spals getting sent for a 3rd or 4th at the deadline.

The biggest thing with him is he is supposed to be a defensive minded forward yet he is -16. Though this may not be the best season to judge that.

Duby could be serviceable as a back-up here. If the defense gets there act together. The Carter Hutton tryout is done.He may be retained until Pekka returns then hes released. Maz gets sent down now or when Pekka returns hopefully this season.

Sorry guys, don't mean to invade your private forum but thought I needed a break from the main boards. I feel like I need a shower after crawling through that!

Anyways, just wanted to thank the two NSH fans who posted reports in the trade thread reporting on Hendricks, sounds like a good guy in the room (needed to guide our young and somewhat immature players at times). Dubnyk really suffered this season, but this is actually the first one where he's truly faltered -- if you see his numbers he's been quite decent at the NHL level. Our abominable team D and poor facsimile of NHL defenders likely contributed a pretty big chunk to the slide this year, but... I will say as a caveat, Dubnyk does continue to let in the bad goal with some alarming regularity. In past seasons he's been able to overcome it and shake it off in game, but this season it's been exacerbated with the lousy team D play and the hedging of bets i.e. lack of confidence shown in him by management. His fundamentals have taken a hit, as has his mental toughness so I am hoping he rebounds under a far more disciplined, well coached system that you guys have under Trotz and co.

Cheers guys = ) Feel free to stop by our boards too! Open, intelligent discourse is always welcomed from other fans.

Hope Hendricks works out for you guys. Not sad to see him go as the Preds seem to have more than enough #grit as it is.

Man this is going to kill our shootout record to lose our newly signed shootout specialist......:sarcasm:

Great move to fix what looked to be a very bad offseason move that was in fact a horrible ofseason move.

I agree with Stranger: highly doubt DD is here at the start of next year.

However, I would have traded Hendricks and his contract for Carter Hutton's twin if he was a pending UFA.

Near where sand and waves meet.
We moved a 4th liner who performed well in that role for a goalie who has more experience, but isn't much of a statistical upgrade than our current duo. A good job shedding an overpayment but we'll have to wait and see if it improves anything between the pipes.
