[NSH-COL] Kuemper is clipped through the mask with Johansen's stick. Kuemper tries to make his way to the bench but collapses to the ice part way.

Masks worn by “amateur” goalies in the ncaa and CHL have to be certified for safety. So they are used to wearing them until they are 20. But they all opt for the cat eye masks when they go pro. No different than players ditching the visor when they turned pro.
Which is stupid.

Players can't ditch the visor though, visors are now mandatory league wide unless you were playing without one before the rule changed. The only players without visors anymore were grandfathered in.

That’s exactly the situation the nhl is in now with goalies. Players used to ditch visors when they had the choice. Which is what goalies are doing with the certified masks.

Have to mandate it like they did with visors.

But are there enough instances of a goalie getting injured to force the change?

Glad he's relatively okay, cat's-eye masks are great for vision but allow this risk. Not at all surprising Johansson didn't realize what was the resistance on his stick as he was jockeying with Mack, and it seems Mack coming in on him coincided with the timing of the stick so hard to say it was intentional.

Puljujärvi is wearing a visor only nominally. It barely covers his eyebrows.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but didn't the league outlaw the Hasek-style cage, which would've totally prevented something like this from happening?
