Bond is a codename? I'm getting more and more confused.
007 is the code that James Bond has used. It seems like he may have gone into retirement and someone else took the 007 code.

I did. I just read this thread naanI know that the number will be assigned to someone else. That's all I got. So, 007 goes on but Bond doesn't. Did I get that right?

Bond presumably retired at the end of Spectre and the most qualified candidate to replace him was a Black Woman. She was given Bond's "code".
That's what I meant. No more Bond movies but 007 movies.

Sounds good. I have nothing against new 007s but I don't want Bond to end. I like that character in all iterations. It's a possibility, but my guess right now is "Let's leave the door open for spin-off since Bond26 may very well be released in late 2024, and we can probably release 1 or 2 movies in the interim, and the series is getting a reboot".
It would be kind of funny if she dies like 10 minutes into the movie and this whole thing makes people look like complete fools for freaking out about nothing.

... That's also a distinct possibility, mind you.
They couldn't find a prettier actress?
Sex appeal is a big part of the Bond series. It's not just spies, but sexy spies. Is this a hilarious reference to the Terminator thread or an actual complaint? She plays a spy, not a supermodel.
Bond didn't do that since Dalton. Shouldn't be a problem. There is one problem with James Bond or Jane Bond(besides there being a porno series called that)
Bond sleeps with 100 women he is a stud if a woman sleeps with 100 guys she is a ****
there is a nasty double standard I do not see the Bond series taken on trope and challenging it
I could see a black James Bond--but not a female regardless of colour and the actress in question is not that good of an actress
just so much wrong with the reports--I think she plays a 007 type character and dies in the movie

I'd certainly like that. I'm getting a little tired of the grind and grit that is popular in so many movies. Never a big fan, really, with a few exceptions. Doesn't need to be cheesy like Moore (although these movies have their charm) but a little lighter.I don't think that's going to be a worry. That cash cow still pumps out milk. Craig will go away after this and someone new will come in and the dance begins again ...
I wonder if the next iteration reins in the grit in favor of pushing to be a little lighter again. Moore was a cheeseball so Dalton was super serious but that was deemed too serious so Brosnan came in and was suave -- not as light as Moore, but definitely lighter than Dalton -- but after the absurdity of Die Another Day (which I sorta like), they went with a harder edge and Craig. Seems to be the cycle here.
Add to that the generally constant praise for the MCU and its ability to joke and the complaint that the DCU is too dark (earning praise for its lighter moments) and I can picture a studio executive pushing for a lighter, sexier Bond next. Less brooding, less moping.
Women seem to think so. He's got a handsome look. Maybe not as dashing as previous bonds. Is Daniel Craig who she's replacing at the start of the movie really all that good looking?
My point is that the James Bond series has done far more ridiculous things than what is being proposed here. It's all perspective, right? I would argue that anyone upset about a woman assuming the 007 number (again NOT ACTUALLY BEING JAMES BOND) has lost a bit of perspective in a series where Bond has flown to space and shot dudes with lasers.
007 is just a number. No, becwus James Bond IS 007, you can't tell people that he is no longer 007 and expect that to go well which what they are trying to do, that's nor how that works, people I'll not accept
Can a mod remove hate ear that YouTube video is? I didn't mean to post that

007 is not just a number in relation to the series. It identifies a certain individual. Bond is not supposed to die off, he is supposed to be reincarnated to reflect the new era like in every generation over the last 50 years.007 is just a number.
That's like saying Matthews is only 34 and nobody else can wear 34 for the rest of time. They don't retire agent numbers either.

Creating a new character is fine but replacing the character of Bond is wrong.
This is just a studio that wants to appeal to more purses than wallets because this is the trend.
I think people are tired of stories they are accustomed to being so heavily changed just to earn more money. The studio is not going to be doing that. The have specifically said that the Bond films will always have a male Bond. In the movie has has retired and is asked to come out of retirement so we shall see if he gets the 007 moniker back at that point. People are going crazy over nothing at this point.
