That said, a lot of stuff that people complain about being "diversity casting" is really just studios throwing shit at a wall and hoping it sticks. They would make Hitler 007 if they thought it would net them a bigger return than the last film.
And moves like this get attention from very predictable segments of the "online discourse" so studios know they can rely on these decisions creating buzz and getting attention for their product. There is a segment that will be "triggered" at the mere suggestion of a "Black 007" and start tweeting like mad. Plus they get the "backlash to the backlash" tweeters who will now treat "Black 007" as a significant cultural milestone that deserves respect and admiration.
