The hockey gods do not want us to make the playoffs...so many injuries...

It kind of works out well though. After the trade deadline you can have more than 23 players without waivers. It looks like Bonino, Burrows, Tanev, Edler could all return after TDL. If Benning wants to pick up a player the injuries let him without consequence. Once healthy our depth looks like this:

C:
Sedin
Bonino
Matthias
Horvat
Richardson
Vey

LW:
Sedin
Higgins
Kenins
McMillan

RW:
Vrbata
Burrows
Hansen
Kassian
Dorsett
Jensen

LHD:
Edler
Hamhuis
Sbisa
Stanton

RHD:
Tanev
Bieksa
Clendening
Weber
Corrado
Biega

This is a pretty deep group, especially considering that a couple of centers on that list play wing as well.

Deep in what sense? Lots of bottom 6 players?

hmm...

How is it his last chance? 22 years old this year, and if he doesn't cut it in a game or two that's it?

This team has Linden Vey 2nd line center and 1st unit PP.If they show even an ounce the amount of patience with Jensen as they have with a 24 year old rookie, Jensen has plenty of time.

exactly

vey was twice as productive as jensen at 22 and he's still barely nhl caliber 2 years later, why would we want to wait around for 2 years hoping that a guy who hasn't progressed anywhere near as well can maybe finally stick in the nhl

not to mention the fact that he doesn't even deserve this call up based on recent play

The only hope with Jensen is that he is a better NHLer than he is an AHLer. That's it.

He'll hit waivers at some point next season unless he surprises.

And Vey doesn't deserve to be in the NHL based on his recent play...what's your point?

Jensen doesn't have size and strength working against him, something Vey always will. I don't think anyone is thrilled with Jensen's production this season, but he's shown glimpses of improved play with good linemates. If he is indeed waiver exempt until 2016-2017, why are you so eager to throw him away?

Jensen has all the raw tools to be a sniper in the NHL. he showed that when playing overseas with men couple seasons ago. Problem with his game is he plays like he's 5'10. Outmuscled on the boards and basically needs teammates to set him up. Players like this won't last on the NHL roster because they can't generate offense themselves and they're not physical enough for the bottom six.

They have great depth on defence. They have a lot of top 9 guys and probably lack 1 bonafide top 6 guy. Overall it nice depth and there are some young players pushing for spots.

Isn't next season his 4th pro season? Or does the lockout not count as a full season?

Pro seasons don't matter. All that matters is age when signing your contract and NHL games. Jensen signed his ELC at age 18 in 2011 and didn't play 10+ games in the NHL at age 18 or 19, so he gets 5 years of waiver exemption provided he doesn't hit his NHL GP threshold of 160 before then. So he's good until the start of 16-17.

In practice, most skaters are waiver exempt for the length of their ELC. Since Jensen is in year 2 of his 3 year deal, he's got another year after this one of exemption.

I think he has another year of eligibility after this year. Don't think he is waiver exempt until 2016-2017 season.

In his last 21 games, Jensen has 2 goals, 5 points, and is a -12.

Every game report indicates he's been a steaming pile of crap since November.

Bizarre callup.

eh if they shove him tons of ice time with the sedins and move him for a pick or different prospect we can call it a success

maybe they're hoping for some magic ~synergy~ with horvat to get people excited to buy tickets to their ****** product after the road trip

Maybe they're trying to showcase him? Hoping he shows some flashes and someone bites?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Jensen the type of player who will produce with better players around him. So hopefully something clicks with him and he has some success with the big club.
