Figured to pass the time (and quit arguing over celebrations and scrub value) we should have our first prediction thread of the offseason.

Avs seem to usually be active at the draft

so predict:

1) Who they draft first (if not with #10, then at what pick)
2) What trade they will make during the draft
3) What other bit of news will the Avs make by the end of the draft

I'll go with
1) Jost @ #10
2) Iginla + #71 for Wideman + #56
3) Kono will be named coach of the Rampage

Needs to be a dman with the #10 pick (unless Nylander or someone by chance falls to 10 then maybe I'd consider it) and a forward with #41. Not all that intrigued by the dmen that are gonna be left in the 2nd round, there's gonna be probably twice as many dmen drafted in the 2nd as in the 1st because I only see 6-7 dmen going in the first. The forward group with guys like Sam Steel and Boris Katchouk looks far more intriguing in terms of upside to me though than the 2nd round D unless you're drafting 50-60.

1. Sergachev at #8
2. #10 and 2017 2nd round pick for #8 and 2017 4th round pick
Mitchell to random team for 2016 or 2017 mid round pick
Siemens to New Jersey for pick #103
3. AHL head coach and Radulov sign before the draft.
Grigo extension announced draft day.

1. Keller at 10
2. Barrie for Trouba
3. New Jerseys (more of a hope than prediction but still both)

1) Sergachev @ 10
2) Barrie trade of some type
3) Announce signing of Radulov who proceeds make the Avs first draft pick at the podium.

1) Nylander @ 10. All the big 3 D plus Brown go before we pick and Nylander surprises everybody by falling to 10.

2) Barrie for #4 and a small plus. I hope I'm wrong but my gut says he moves. Sakic and Roy will miss the playoffs again thanks to this mistake, but this time, they won't get a chance to learn from it.

3) MacKinnon signs for 7x7. People will whine that he hasn't earned it on here, but he will eventually prove them wrong.

I feel as though after taking Papjach in the 6th round back in 2014, the Avs will be looking at a more established goalie prospect in the 3rd round. Sawchenko could be the addition there or Colton Point depending on how soon the Avs want that goalie to join the pro system.

There are not many on either side that are catching my eye.

Johansen, Allard, Hajek, Lindgren
Bastian, Mascherin, Kuokkanen

1) #4- Dubois, #10- Sergachev, #19- Fabbro
2) Barrie to Oilers for #4, #32, Yakupov
Varlamov to Islanders for #19
3) Farrish and Avs part ways

If they don't throw #10 in some deal then #71 and Butcher (with #10) to Arizona to take Sergachev. I'm calling one of their sleepers as Connor Hall, Nicolas Mattinen or Jordan Sambrook. No news by the draft.

Ok, I'll bite. Focusing only on draft day.
Avs take Chychrun 10th
Avs trade Varly to Carolina for the 21st and Phillip Di Giuspeppe
Avs take German Rubtsov with the 21st
Avs take Pascal Leberge with the 23rd pick (traded to Avs in a Barrie trade the day before the draft)
Avs take Frederic Allard with the 40th

1. Draft Sergachev at 10.
2. Trade Barrie and 2nd to Edmonton for 4th overall and Yakupov ( not saying I'd like it but we seem to throw in our 2nd round pick with basically every deal.)
3. MacK extended 6.75M per for 6 seasons. Grigorenko extended 1.6M per for 2 seasons.

I see no point in getting Yakupov. He's not good enough to get protected and in theory, he might get picked up in the expansion draft. Just an unnecessary piece IMHO.

What I'd do depends on the direction they want this team to go. What I wouldn't mind is this:

1. Duchene for 3rd overall and Rychel - but would rather keep Duchene.
2. Barrie for 4th overall.
3. Varlamov for 13th overall to Carolina.
4. Wideman for Iginla.
5. Sign Radulov.

Wonder which new scrubs we're signing. Rob Klinkhammer? Matt Tennyson? Exciting.

Oh yeah, draft prediction. Sergachev.
