I honestly don’t see a world of difference between 3 and 5. We won’t have our pick of the litter, but all these kids at that tier are apparently about the same ceiling wise.
there's power in having #3

if we like two guys, we could theoretically trade down to 4th or 5th, depending on how badly someone wants to move up those spots. but yeah, like @Cheddabombs says, the options are nice

Of course everyone else in the 4-5 range will think the same thing about that tier being similar and probably not offer a trade up.

We’ve been lucky when it comes to the draft lottery though. 2011 and 2017 isn’t that far in the past.

Hence why I think we’re due for the short end of the stick this year unfortunately.

That is crazy that even Colorado only has a 50% chance to stay in the top 3.

i’m not just saying this because odds are we won’t win, but i think this whole lottery needs to looked at. i get the desire to prevent tanking, but the worst 5 teams in the league should have the 1-5 spots, with the other non-playoff teams having a separate drawing to determine if they move up

As much as it would be nice if we get kakko or Hughes, Im not going to be very bummed at all since the top 6 players are still very solid.

If I had to take a wild stab in the dark at what our draft board looks like I'd guess
1. Hughes
2. Kakko
3. Byram/Turcotte
4. Byram/Turcotte
5. Cozens/Zegras
6. Cozens/Zegras
From what I've seen/read and heard from Steven on here falling to 6th won't be the end of the world. Not like we have to worry about that tho since we're winning the lottery

I think that's pretty much what I believe as well.

Byram and Turcotte can go 3rd and 4th in either order, followed by Cozens and Zegras.

The Rest is a crap shoot.

Honestly I view this lottery as nothing but a potential win, either we strike it lucky and get Hughes/Kakko or we pick 3-6.

There’s almost no difference in the next group of prospects after the top 2, if we slide back to 5 or 6 it basically does not matter at all. Byram, Turcotte, Podkolzin, Cozens and Dach are all firmly in that second tier (I also have Krebs there too) and we’ll get our choice of at least 2 of them even if slide back to 6.

Most likely scenario is us at #5, obviously it depends on who picks where but I suspect Podkolzin and Byram are most likely to go 3 & 4 in which case we’ll get one of Cozens/Turcotte and very leave happy.

I’d be vastly more disappointed with dropping back if there were a big 3/4, but in this particular draft I don’t think it really matters at all. If we win, great, if not no harm done.

now for the fun game - who do we think ends up being the biggest faller in the draft

i think there’s a chance podkolzin falls outside of the top 5, maybe even to 7. considering where he’s generally ranked, that would be quite a fall. i think broberg has the best chance of moving up significantly

i thought this tidbit was interesting from shero

"You have to evaluate all areas of their game," Shero said of the lengthy prospect evaluation process.”Their work ethic. Their off-ice habits. Whether their name inspires any anime-related GDT’s. We made that mistake with Nico, we won’t do it again.”
