If you're truly happy about the pick falling to 4 then I'm happy too. Anything that can give the Sens something to celebrate is a win win in my book

I think for some of us it's not having "another" set of bad news like giving away/losing the 1OA. Then some of us are spiteful because of all the mockery from a handful of Avs fans that were hoping we'd tank out, made the lottery watch site...etc. In fear of all the lambasting/mockery we'd get if we won the lottery, we've now become the aggressors

Grrr. NJD with another 1st OA and multiple cups in recent memory along with the CBH also with multiple cups in even more recent memory is upsetting to say the least.

Why are they depressed? The pick was just icing on the cake to a great trade.

Wow, lots of bitterness over the lottery and lottery system. It is what it is, designed to curtail tanking and I am all for that because there is nothing worse than paying to watch a team tank. I'm not just saying that because the Hawks won and am not gloating like a certain Hawks fan, but because I paid to watch the Sabres tank in past years. The system should be revised to only allow the 5 worst teams the shot at #1-3 in my opinion but allow the other 10 to move up just not into the top 3.

As a Hawks fan, I'll take it though.

Can't blame the Sens fans for feeling good about the result either, perhaps a little karma at work.

If you look at the percentages, the #1 draft slot is winning the draft lottery at a 2/13 rate which is a 15.4% rate at such a small sample size.

Remember once Toronto and buffalo won their lotteries, Edm and Ott then became the highest seed with around 13/80 odds so around 16-17% which is a 1/6 chance.

At a macro level should expect the worst team next season to get into the top 3. But it would not be statistically surprising for that not to occur as well.

Yeah, look at the Devils injury woes. For the last game of the season our "top line" was Hischier centering Kenny Agostino and Blake Coleman.


The fact he outpaced his rookie year (which was quietly historic in terms of his 5-on-5 play, he did better at ES than any non-McDavid 1st OA in their D+1 years has in the past decade) is pretty incredible. He didn't have Hall to shelter him the second half of the year and still produced playing with scrubs.

Seriously you can't just look at Hischier's stats and think you have an idea of what type of season he had. He's a different type of player than most first overall picks. His hockey sense, two way play and intangibles are already well above average at 20 years old. He'll be elite at those aspects of the game very shortly. I really believe he can max out as a more skilled, yet less physical version of Patrice Bergeron. There's not a single devils fan that's worried about Nico Hischier. He's legit and him and Hughes are gonna be a problem down the middle for years to come for the rest of the league.

Also, if Zacha plays the way he did the last month of the season from here on out. Then we could potentially have the best group of centers in the league along with Zajac, who's criminally underrated.

Just clean up the defense with the signing or trading for a first pairing defenseman and we will be in phenomenal shape going forward.

Really most years the first pick is just not a game changer. Crosby was. Ovi was. McDavid talent wise was and maybe Mathews as well. Best second pick was Malkin. Kane was as well but still most are just good players who just are not picks who make the respective teams significantly better. Don't think there are any big time game changers this year either. But some very good players yes.
