Yager is an odd case. Highlights never paint a good picture, but he’s incredibly more explosive in his 2021-2022 (CHL ROY) highlights than his 2022-2023 reel. It’s weird.

Whether that’s good or bad or doesn’t matter at all (most likely)- I have no idea

I feel like a lot of Yager from year to year is the difference between a guy playing the game instinctively and a guy trying to learn to play a broader way. Makes sense the more instinctive version comes across as more explosive.

I agree tho. I feel like his hands and willingness to attack people look better in 21-22.

Not that it matters or anyone cares nor does it mean anything but here's my ratings of the players we drafted yesterday.

Name - Ceiling (out of 10) - Max Points in first 82 NHL Games - Readiness (out of 10) - Overall Rating (out of 100) - Standardized %*

Yager - 7.43 - 47 points - 3.32 - 53.6 - 71.5%
Ilyin - 5.12 - 33 points - 5.05 - 39.7 - 52.9%
Jarventie - 5.46 - 35 points - 2.14 - 33.3 - 44.4%
Pieniniemi - 4.58 - 24 points - 2.14 - 31.2 - 41.6%
Foster - 4.05 - 26 points - 2.10 - 27.3 - 36.4%
Kangas - 2.67 - 15 points - 1.52 - 18.8 - 25.0%

* I've added this new category since the players are compared to McDavid and Makar (both who were right around 100) ... not exactly fair. For example, POJ's latest rating is a 55.6 which seems low for what we know to be an NHLer. As for now, I've selected 75 to be the overall rating we're comparing to for this percentage. Subject to change.

I also have a "Floor" but since they're so young they basically all have the same rating as a minor leaguer with varying success.

Kudos for taking the readiness rating out to the second decimal point. Though I agree Jarventie is a 2.14, I have Pieniniemi at 2.15.

It's not a big deal; to be honest, I got to that point by rounding my third decimal point up.
