Those numbers aren't that bad its kinda surprising I didn't expect much for a Vegas vs Washington Final ratings wise. I guess the expansion team aspect might be attracting more viewers.

NHL kinda needs the series to game 7. Or game 6 at the very least. Stanley Cup ending in 5 games just isnt enough.

The Washington market numbers over the course of the playoffs are pretty illuminating. I think game 6 of Round 1 had like a 5.5, then ratings were kinda stuck around the 8-9 plateau...before they went into the teens for the Finals and finally over 20. It actually perfectly illustrates the atmosphere in the area. There was no excitement at all until Pittsburgh was dispatched, then all the Caps fans got hyped, by the time they made the Finals the wider public took notice and then finally when they went up 3-1 everyone 'found' their Caps gear.

Regardless. The series could have gone longer. and the regular season ratings do need some work. but there is not real set schedule as to when the regular season games are on NBC

Much of the speculation that the MLS audience will explode over the next few decades is due to the fact the Hispanics reproduce at a much greater rate than any other ethnicity.

Also, comparing to the MLB isn't exactly great. Their audience has drastically shrunk over the last 20 years.

People watch the NBA to see the stars and their feats, whether the games and series are close is not the primary factor. It's a totally different viewership dynamic, much more focused on simply watching Lebron, Curry, Durant and so forth.

Not sure where you got your info from. Major League Soccer Final averages 1.5-2 mil in the US. NHL Stanley Cup Finals have solidly average around 4 -4.5 mil consistently for the last decade. Putting things in context a relatively new league 20 yrs old vs 100 yr old league. I'll never understand why some people feel the need to try and belittle MLS at the expense of making NHL look good especially when alot of the trends and growth of the leagues don't favor us and MLS has shown more growth as a league over the past decade and most likely for the foreseeable future. Can't people just enjoy both leagues.

Not even close. Last year's World Series averaged a 10.7 rating and over 18 million viewers. Two years ago had a 13.1 rating and over 23 million viewers (Cubs). Even 2015 with the boring, small market Royals averaged a 8.7 and over 14 million viewers.

This is a great rating for the NHL, but let's not go overboard.

Overall, the 2018 playoffs were up 4% vs. 2017 (1.39 million).

Where did you get the 6.6M from does that include streaming as well? NBC press releases at time feel like a Math word problem trying to get the actual answer. I hadn't seen that number is why I asked I saw a higher TDA audience of 6.7 mil but Showbuzz had the number NBC TV number at just over 6.018 mil for the timeslot.
