goalie controls are hideous....any tips out there?
are there any control options that will allow simple saves to be made via like X/B/A/Y etc?

No, I don't believe that having the saves mapped to the buttons is possible considering that custom control mapping is not available in the game. :(

Holding the RS left or right will "anticipate" a shot going to that direction of your goalie and increase the chances of making the save if it goes there. You're less likely to save it if you guess the opposite side though.

yeah, that's what I did my first couple games (online vs my brother), it ended up being a lot like a soccer-style shootout.....shooter picks a side, goalie picks a side, and hope for the best   :help:

what a stupid move by EA, considering the crap-loads of customization they allow for players, yet they dont even allow you to change basic game controls...what a joke

I can't think of any console game that allows you to fully map your controls. I never really understood this. For shooters especially, there's always a preset control setup that is so close to being perfect for me, but only if they let me swap a couple buttons.

Anyone have news on the AHL roster update? Seriously disappointed in EA, they're taking way too long. I'm just going to pretend NHL 14 doesn't exist next year until January, or whenever the hell they finally get complete rosters. I pretty much only play for the GM mode so this is incredibly annoying.

So with the new roster update, they added Johnathon Drouin to the game, without me really noticing they did, and I decided to start a new Be A GM.

I drafted Drouin at #1, he's 77 Overall with 4.5star potential and 98 Shot power.... WHAT.

Like I said upthread, I have given up on goalie mode so I apologize if this is out of date... but it worked ok in NHL12...

Go heavy on your left trigger, the one that puts you in the butterfly. In fact, for the most part, don't even use your right hand. At all. Use the LS to play the angles, and butterfly the hell out of the puck. If you're in a rebound or scramble situation, hold the trigger down and scoot around on your knees to block the net. DON'T use the right stick to anticipate shots -- let the CPU "reflex" do the work for you. And diving-pokecheck every other breakaway, to screw with the shooters' heads.

That's the best I got. Hope it still works on NHL13. The goalie mode is god damned awful from what I've experienced. Up there in the annals of rage-inducing impossible video game tasks.

I hate when attributes jump that high. I think Chara only has 95 SSP just for comparison. But its probably partly because they made him a sniper instead of a playmaker.

Decided to play BAGM again. It takes forever to sim a week. No wonder I stopped playing it. Anyone have any tips to make it go by faster?

They also didn't add his name to the game's audio clip library, so all the announcers call him "Lapel" for some reason. Confused the hell out of me at first lol.

The problem with playing goalie is that everyone else on the ice has a lot more control over their players and hockey sticks than you do. You basically have a limited amount of moves/animations to stop an almost unlimited array of scoring situations.

I think the player's height/weight has something to do with their actual slaphot power. For example, I can tee it up on the blue line with Chara/Phaneuf/Murray and absolutely laze it top shelf every other time, but when I'm playing around with smaller guys with similarly high shooting attributes like say, Kessel or the aforementioned Drouin, it's noticeably suckier. I never score on a slapshot from more than 20 feet out with those guys.

Strength is a slap shot modifier. EA usually gives big guys high strength attributes, and therefore harder shots.
