FINAL SIGNINGS

The Titan have added their final pieces to the puzzle, which shapes up training camp right around the corner. Forwards Connor Donaghey, Antoine Masson, John Mullally, Justin Dickinson, Zach Whitlock, and Jimmy Paradis, and defensemen Jared Wilson, Mathieu Leclerc, Billy Hartley, Jean-Philippe Provencher, and Brennan Bailey, and goalies David Richer and Jordan Kennedy, have all signed with the team. GM Sylvain Couturier knows what his team will be all about. "We'll be exciting to watch, and although we may not get the wins right out of the gate, I'm excited to watch us grow as a team. It's going to be a fun season." The team plays 3 exhibition games, and then the team will be picked. All three games are on the road, against Moncton, Saint John, and PEI.

Captian Jonathan Toews raises the Stanley Cup for the third time in three years

* = Game decided in Overtime

The Chicago Blackhawks have made it a three-peat, stunning the Washington Capitals in 7 games. After falling down 3-1 in the Finals, the Blackhawks clawed their way back at home and on the road.
Every contest was close and hard fought, with all of them finishing as 1-goal games.

This is the first time an NHL team has won 3 straight Cups, since the New York Islanders' dynasty in the early 1980's, and some believe that Chicago could best that.

Many had questioned GM Stan Bowman's decisions to trade away Dave Bolland, Viktor Stalberg, and Marcus Kruger, only acquiring one forward, Dainius Zubrus, in return. They had a plethora of #5-7 defensemen, including Niklas Hjalmarsson, Henrik Tallinder, Andrew Ference, Nick Leddy, Johnny Oduya, and Cory Sarich, going into the playoffs. The critics have been silenced, as the team was clearly balanced enough to win the grand prize once again.

The question now becomes if Bowman can keep this squad together. Jonathan Toews , Patrick Kane, and Francois Beauchemin have expiring contracts, along with supporting cast Brandon Saad and Johnny Oduya. Age is also a factor, as Patrick Sharp will be 34, while Marian Hossa and Dainius Zubrus will be 37, and Jamie Langenbrunner is turning 40.

In the AHL, the Providence Bruins defeated the Chicago Wolves in 7 games to win the Calder Cup. Nicklas Jensen lead the post-season with 23 points in 20 games.

Has anyone ever figured out exactly how to get your forwards to produce in purely simulated play throughs? Often times you will see CPU team players putting up 50+ goal seasons and 90-100pts, but it seems regardless of how good my teams are 70-80pts is normally the most I will get out of star players. I have found that actually simulating the game, as opposed to just skipping by the day, actually tends to translate into better stats, but I've still never been able to get a player to consistently put up 40-50 goals per year.

Oilers' Explosive Offense Too Much for Neptunes

402A0001_4_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_jDw.jpg

This year's Art Ross Trophy winner, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, celebrates a breakaway
goal against the Dallas Neptunes in the 2014 Western Conference Finals.

After a high-scoring series against the Vancouver Canucks that featured a poor defensive showing by both teams, people wondered if the Dallas Neptunes would be able to handle Edmonton Oilers' explosive offense. They couldn't.

Game one of the Western Conference Finals featured a 2 goal performance by Oilers forward Taylor Hall, as Edmonton defeated Dallas 4-1. Game two was much better for the Neptunes, as Kari Lehtonen stole the show, making 31 saves in a 4-2 Dallas victory. Things were looking bad early on in game three, as the Oilers raced out to a 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 until Neptunes forward Cody Eakin scored with 4 minutes left in regulation to cut the Oilers lead in half. Then, Jamie Benn tied things up with just 24 seconds remaining in regulation to stun the Edmonton crowd and force the game into overtime. The late comeback wasn't enough, however, as the clutch Jordan Eberle scored about 10 minutes into overtime to give the Oilers the victory. Eberle continued to be hot in game four, as he scored his first career playoff hat trick, to help the Oilers down the Neptunes 5-2. Facing elimination in game five, the Neptunes fought hard, but couldn't keep the puck out of their net as they fell to the Oilers 5-3. The Oilers will be playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Speculation has already begun about possible changes that could be made in the offseason by Dallas. Many fans expect general manager Jason Melbrook to add a defenseman in the offseason, but he hasn't discussed anything with the media yet.

SHL FREE AGENCY NEWS

We are only two weeks into UFA season and there has already been huge news in the Free Agency market.

A few days ago, the Chicago Wildcats sent San Antonio Outlaws C Steven Stamkos a 5 year offer sheet for 14.080million dollars per.

The Outlaws matched yesterday, with GM Gordon Bombay declining to comment at the time on what his plan for the rest of the team was with such a massive contract spent on one player.

Today, the team made a trade with clear salary cap-saving intentions.

The team traded:

C Henrik Sedin
LW Alexander Zinovjev

to the Colorado Rockies for:

C Nathan MacKinnon

The Outlaws will now have a full 2 years of ELC MacKinnon before he demands the big bucks, but with the extra 8 million dollars saved from trading Sedin, the team was able to sign RFA D-Man Ryan Murray to a 5 year contract a 7.040 million per.

The team then got rid of the 6million+ contract of aging forward Simon Gagne.

The Outlaws traded:

LW Simon Gagne
2022 First Round Pick

to The Winnipeg Zephyrs for:

LW Nathan Gerbe

Jamie Benn Named Captain of the Dallas Neptunes

September 4th, 2014

Jamie+Benn+2012+NHL+Star+Game+Player+Portraits+I_z1bEinhfQl.jpg

It didn't come as a surprise to most people, but this morning the Dallas Neptunes announced the naming of their next captain, Jamie Benn. The Neptunes became captain-less back in 2013 when Brendan Morrow was traded at the trade deadline to Pittsburgh for Joe Morrow. Since the 2013 trade deadline, Benn, Loui Eriksson, and Trevor Daley all served as alternate captains. Benn lead the Neptunes in scoring during the 2013-14 regular season, scoring 41 goals and 79 points. Neptunes coach Lindy Ruff, who was hired midway through the 2012-13 season, spoke to the media about his selection:

"I don't think this choice comes as a surprise to most of you." Ruff told the media with a chuckle. "Besides Jamie, we have a lot of great leaders on this team. Loui [Eriksson], Kevin [Bieksa], Trevor [Daley], Patrice [Bergeron]... and a whole bunch more. But to me, Jamie stands out. Not only does he lead our team offensively, but he's a hard-working player, he goes into the tough places, and always gives it his all, night in and night out. He leads us in the locker room as well... he's a great role model, he handles the fans well and I think he's the new face of the franchise. I believe he's the best choice to lead our team going forward."

---

The Dallas Neptunes' 2013-14 season ended with a Western Conference Finals loss to the Edmonton Oilers, a great turn-around after they failed to qualify for the playoffs last season. The Oilers went on to lose in the Cup Finals, to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who won their first Stanley Cup since 1967.

Fans were surprised that the Neptunes did not make any offseason moves at all besides releasing veteran forward Vernon Fiddler to free agency. GM Jason Melbrook has told the media that he is not going to make any big moves unless he feels the team can be a cup competitor this year, in which case he may add a significant piece mid-season. The team may have made it to the Conference Finals last season, but Melbrook feels that many of the organization's prospects can join the team within the next few years, making a big move now somewhat pointless.

Here is a list of Dallas' top prospects:

D Seth Jones (61 overall, 20 years old, 4.5 green stars)
C Radek Faksa (65 overall, 20 years old, 4.5 yellow stars)
LW Jonathan Drouin (76 overall, 19 years old, 4.5 yellow stars)
D Joe Morrow (75 overall, 21 years old, 4 yellow stars)
LW Jason Dickinson (64 overall, 19 years old, 4 yellow stars)
LW Kerby Rychel (60 overall, 20 years old, 4 yellow stars)
D Jamie Oleksiak (73 overall, 21 years old, 4 yellow stars)
LW Jaimen Yakubowski (64 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
D Josh Thrower (51 overall, 18 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
D Patrik Nemeth (73 overall, 22 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
C Rasmus Kulmala (60 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
RW Brett Ritchie (66 overall, 21 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
D Ryan Kelly (59 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
C Mike Winther (61 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
LW Adam Lowry (66 overall, 21 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
D Jyrki Jokipakka (66 overall, 23 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
LW Yuri Voynov (58 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
C Terry Trafford (54 overall, 20 years old, 3.5 yellow stars)
RW Tomas Vincour (71 overall, 23 years old, 3.5 red stars)

...And here is Dallas' starting roster for the 2014-15 regular season:

Loui Eriksson (86, A) - Jamie Benn (87, C) - Nail Yakupov (85)
Bud Holloway (80) - Patrice Bergeron (86) - Brad Boyes (81)

We're very happy with how the draft went this year. We're comfortable with our goalie situation, so we opted to go for skaters this time around.
We expect all of these players to be able to contribute at the highest level, even though some may take longer than others.

NEW OWNERS IN BB

The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada have been purchased. A group of NHLers, including Roberto Luongo, Kris Letang, and Martin Brodeur, bought the team. "We're honoured to be able to say this deal was a success. We look forward to making this team a hockey hotbed for years to come." said Luongo. "We'll soon hire a coaching staff, along with a GM. That should come rather soon with the midget and import drafts edging around the corner." Letang added. "All of the current Armada players and prospects have found new homes," said Brodeur. "We'll be receiving compensation in the summer to make up for it. Our team will be young, but we will be exciting. We promise Blainville-Boisbriand natives that we will run a proper junior hockey team here." With that, the three men left the press conference.

COACHING STAFF + GM

Instead of hiring a head coach, the Armada owners hired three. They will be associate coaches. All were assistant coaches in the league last year. Mathieu Turcotte (Chicoutimi), Louis Robitaille (Drummondville), and Fabian Joseph (Moncton) are the new Armada coaches. Jean Gagnon, formerly of the Quebec Remparts, will be the general manager of the team. "I know I'm excited," said Joseph. "I really like the idea of associate coaches, and it's going to be a fun time here." Turcotte then said, "I also think it will be an interesting experience. We have an experienced staff, and I look forward to the challenge ahead." Both Robitaille and Gagnon were unavailable for comment. The first step for the organization is the midget draft, where the Armada hold the 4th, and 12th picks in the first round, and many more in later rounds.

Did you create players or is Sean Day really in the game? I never played that many seasons. I was just wondering how a 15-years-old can be in the game.

Currently in my 2nd season season of simming with my Calgary Flames.
(Salary cap on etc.)

My Current Record is: 32-12-4 (68p), sitting first in the West and also 1st in the whole league, my current line-up is:

Kreider (82) - Backlund (80) - Baertschi (81) "C"
Ruutu (83) "A" - Stajan (81) - Hudler (81)
Wolski (80) - Bozak (79) - Stempniak (80
Komarov (75) - Fiddler (76) - Stewart (74)

Brodie (79) - White (85) "A"
Cumiskey (77) - Butler (77)
Clendening (74) - Gilroy (76)

Irving (85)
Raanta (76)

I am really surprised that my team is doing great with that kind of a team, i was excepting to be around the bottom 5 in the league(That's why Kreider-Backlund-Baertschi is the top line), but instead we are currently the beast team in the NHL. Even though i traded the best players on this team for picks.

Irving has played like a god this season, and if he continues this pace he will most likely win the Vezina.

And my current leading scorers are Kreider and Baertschi, both tied at 40 points.

Feaster gone, Flames acquire Koivu

7940270.bin

New GM RA9 hit the ground running has he moved D Chris Butler for vet Saku Koivu

The quest for a cup begins for the Calgary Flames, although many fans and pundits alike think the Flames should go for a full-out rebuild, new GM RA9 doesn't think so.

I believe the team I have been handed can win a cup. We a superstar goalie in [Kiprusoff], a star winger in [Iginla], and a elite core on our D. I believe that [Koivu] can help us achieve our goal. His experience is invaluable and he will be used in all situations on the ice.

That wasn't the only move of the day for RA9, as he traded D Derek Smith to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Tampa's 3rd Round pick in the upcoming draft.

The Flame's season opener is on the 11th against the Vancouver Canucks, the tentative lines are as follows:

A. Tanguay-J. Hudler-J. Iginla
C. Glencross-M. Stajan-L.Stempniak
M. Cammalleri-M. Backlund-T. Kostopoplous
B. Comeau-S. Koivu-T. Jackman

J. Bouwmeester- M. Giordano
S. Hannan- D. Wideman
A. Babchuk- C. Sarich

M. Kipprusoff
H. Karlsson

Stay tuned for updated Flames news.

I'm pretty sure Sean Day isn't in the game as he's not in the OHL yet. He must have created him.

He isn't in mine. Either he created him or I missed the update.

Sorry for the confusion, I knew I forgot something. He is 100% not in the game/from an EA roster update, custom-made player. Just wanted to add him because it seemed like he would be drafted by the 67's in real life (although apparently the team plans on taking somebody else), and would make an interesting addition.

Both Jarome Iginla (left) and Marc Staal (right) will be joining the Senators this year

NHL Trades
Ottawa Senators acquire: 2015 2nd (COL), 2015 3rd (COL)
Colorado Avalanche acquire: G Daniel Altshuller (3.5 Yellow)
----------
Tampa Bay Lightning acquire: C Joe Thornton
San Jose Sharks acquire: 2016 1st (OTT), 2016 1st (TBL)

With a glut of goalie prospects, the Sens decided to trade Daniel Altshuller, who will likely play behind Calvin Pickard with the Lake Erie Monsters.
Then, in mid-July, the Sharks announced that they had traded their long-time captain Joe Thornton, to Tampa Bay, in exchange for two firsts next in next year's draft.

Joe's an amazing player, I've played against him and he was with the national team at the 2010 Olympics when I was GM. We've had our eyes on him since Logan (Couture) emerged as the Shark's number one center.

OFFSEASON NOTES
The Ottawa Senators re-signed the majority of their players with expiring contracts, but released a mix of older and younger players that no longer fit their plan.
New prospect Sean Day and multiple youngsters from the 2013 draft were given ELCs.
They then signed long-time Calgary Flames Jarome Iginla and Curtis Glencross, as well as adding Thunder Bay native Marc Staal.
Josh Harding, who's expected to battle for the back-up position with Craig Anderson, was also signed.
In addition, Scott Hannan was brought on board, to play with Binghamton.

However, the Colorado Avalanche scored the Free Agency jackpot, in former 1st overall pick and Stanley Cup winning Marc-Andre Fleury, for 3 years. This provides stability after
a few inconsistent years from Semyon Varlamov, and allows high-end prospect Calvin Pickard another year in the 'A'.

After losing Brian Campbell to retirement, the Panthers snagged Mike Green, who was unable to renegotiate a contract with Washington.

Long playing in Jonathan Quick's shadow, Jonathan Bernier was picked up in free agency by the Oilers. With Bernier, they now have a solid duo, with Dubnyk playing back-up.

The Canadiens signed 3 vets to near-identical contracts, readying themselves for a playoff push

1st - Compliment your players roles. Playmakers should be playing with snipers. Ideally, playmaker center with elite snipers works great. My top line in Dallas was Benn (PLY) - Drouin (SNI) - Shinkaruk (PLY) - they all ended up having several seasons where they were above a PPG. Drouin always had 50ish goals and 110 points.

2nd - Put good shooters with good passers. Lots of players have GREAT passing ratings (90+), but aren't necessarily super overall players. Put those players with great shooting players. Passers without shooters aren't effective. Shooters without passers aren't as effective.

3rd - Positions. I've had players put up great numbers while playing off position (Shinkaruk on the right wing), but generally players tend to do much better in their own positions - (LW-C-RW) is better than (C-C-RW).
