I've got no problems with any of those finalists for the Calder. Besides, it's pretty much the who is going to lose to Barzal contest anyway.
Playoffs don't matter with the Calder. Nico had a great rookie season but it was an excellent year for rookies. I bet he finished 4th or 5th and there's no shame in that.
Funny thing about those three above :
None of them were in the playoffs while Nico was. What a useless award.
Yeah plus bad teams usually are gonna have the best rookies. We just happened to be a bad team last year that made a quantam (25+ point) leap this year.
Could have been more if Corey didn't hit that cold streak, or if Kinky stepped up earlier. Goaltending led directly to quite a few losses.Yeah plus bad teams usually are gonna have the best rookies. We just happened to be a bad team last year that made a quantam (25+ point) leap this year.

Or we didn't get screwed by the refs a few times.Or if those damn pesky Panthers stayed where they were in the standings(in the basement where they belonged), the Devils might have clinched earlier than they did.
I remember hearing he was a lame duck GM a while back (Lou apparently is too) and thinking that’s probably it for him.
What has he done there? A resume full of mediocrity. They make the playoffs every year, but go out in the first round and occasionally make the second round. They can never get out of their own way there and it’s on his watch.

The Capitals make the second round more than them, but that’s where they die out. Their GM has only been in place since 2014, while Fletcher has been there since 2009.you're also describing the capitals
Very strange timing to fire Fletcher. The team is still good but most of their talent is old now. They need a proper transition plan but that likely won't happen now that they are replacing management. I can understand the move if the owner is interested in backing out and blowing up the team but he's going on about taking a step forward in competing for the cup.
But isn't that pretty much de facto the same thing? The result is exactly the same in that he no longer has the job.i don't think he was fired- his contract was just not renewed. i think that's the reason for the semi-odd timing
The result is the same, but it explains the timing. But isn't that pretty much de facto the same thing? The result is exactly the same in that he no longer has the job.

Still remember when Wild fans were convinced those contracts would put them over the hump.
Have they gotten any further than they had in the years prior? I guess it got them in the playoffs consistently, but that's about it. Perennial playoff doormats.
Me: the Islanders can't possibly be a bigger embarrassment as an organization than they already are.
*sees they are looking at bringing in Slava Voynov assuming he can actually be let back into this country*
Me: I stand corrected.
No they haven’t, and the contracts keep looking worse. Especially as Zach’s body breaks down ahead of schedule.
They still defend it though. I just don’t see how you can ever defend Zach’s contract. His style of play was always going to lead to an early physical break down, and he simply was never good enough as an individual player to warrant the few top years you would get from him at that price.
