I miss the old days when "#" was just a pound sign....

What was so great about the # symbol before twitter? Outside of computing and mathematics it was pretty much dead. Now it has new life. I for one welcome our new hash-taging overloads. I just wish it was called octothorping.

I'm waiting for the interrobang to catch on.

That always just sounded dirty to me.

"No, Mr. Bond, you may not talk now, but I fully expect you to talk after your interrobang. BWAHAHAHAHA!"

Personally I think the world would be better with the standardization of the irony mark. Never again would a sarcastic/ironic comment be misconstrued.

Question 1: Who's going to work with special teams here, Smith or Brindamour?
Question 2: Who's gonna replace Malhotra as a alt. captain, Faulk, Hainsey or even Skinner?

Can we play without letters for the first few games and then decide monthly on who gets them? No? Okay.

No. NHL rules dictate that there must be either a designated captain and two alternates or three alternates dressed for each game. And rotating them monthly, who do you think we are, the Minnesota Wild?

I similarly think it's likely to be Faulk or Sekera, but I think Skinner could be a darkhorse what with his comments towards the end of last season about wanting to take on more of a leadership role on the team, that he had been an alternate in Kitchener, etc. I also wouldn't mind a return to how Lavi did things with a captain, a permanent alt, and an away/home alt. Maybe something like:

C: E. Staal
A: J. Staal
Home A: Faulk
Away A: Sekera

Liles is pretty good veteran, do not count him out of that. Hainsey is my prediction though.

I'd like to buy Sekera's undying love for the Canes (hopefully leading to a hometown discount) with the C.

I'd also like to buy a little fire in Eric's game by stripping him of the C.

No. NHL rules dictate that there must be either a designated captain and two alternates or three alternates dressed for each game.

But the rules don't dictate that those players have to wear letters. They can be "designated" on the lineup card without having a letter. It's perfectly legal to dress 20 guys with no letters on the front, but the lineup card will have 2 "A"s and a "C" (or three "A"s) designated.

Was about to say, no one wears a C in Columbus.

Because they have three alternates. You can have either a captain and two alternates or three alternates and no captain. And totalkev, sorry to say, but you're incorrect:

Rule 6
–
Captain and Alternate Captains
6.1
Captain
-
One Captain shall be appointed by each team, and he alone shall have the privilege of discussing with the Referee any questions relating to interpretation of rules which may arise during the progress of a game. He shall wear the letter “C,†approximately three inches (3'') in height and in contrasting color, in a conspicuous position on the front of his sweater. No co-Captains are permitted. Either one Captain and no more than two Alternate Captains, or no Captain and no more than three Alternate Captains are permitted (see 6.2).

Only the Captain, when invited to do so by the Referee, shall have the privilege of discussing any point relating to the interpretation of rules. Any Captain, Alternate Captain or any player who comes off the bench and makes any protest or intervention with the officials for any purpose shall be assessed a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct under Rule 39 – Abuse of Officials. Should this protest continue, he may be assessed a misconduct penalty, and if it further continues, a game misconduct penalty shall be warranted.

A complaint about a penalty is NOT a matter “relating to the interpretation of the rules†and a minor penalty shall be imposed against any Captain, Alternate Captain or any other player making such a complaint.

The Referee and Official Scorer shall be advised, prior to the start of each game, the name of the Captain and the Alternate Captains of both teams.

No playing Coach or playing Manager or goalkeeper shall be permitted to act as Captain or Alternate Captain.

6.2
Alternate Captains
–
If the permanent Captain is not on the ice, Alternate Captains (not more than two) shall be accorded the privileges of the Captain. Alternate Captains shall wear the letter “A†approximately three inches (3'') in height and in contrasting color, in a conspicuous position on the front of their sweaters.

Only when the Captain is not in uniform, the Coach shall have the right to designate three Alternate Captains. This must be done prior to the start of the game
