Is there any doubt that Rod Brind'amour is the biggest and most important figure in Carolina Hurricanes history? First as a player and now as a coach, four straight trips to the ECF.

Fan favourite.
Captain of 06 team.
Two individual awards.
Coaches the team to playoffs after 10 years drought.
Only EStaalo has more points as Hurricane.

I can't believe that I doubt Rod's hire. Man, he bleed Hurricanes.

Ron Francis
Rod Brind'Amour
Eric Staal
Glen Wesley

Thats my top 4.

I’m not gonna comment on RBA as a player cause I’m not too familiar with him. But I think we tend to overreact when evaluating coaches/players in the playoffs. I know every player in the locker room loves him and he’s been a way better hire than I thought he would be. Honest question if the Hurricanes didn’t get a couple lucky breaks and lost to the Caps would you post this? I’m taking nothing away from the Canes as they were the better team in the series but if Vrana hits the net instead of the post in OT of game 7 and we’re talking in a offseason thread right now. There’s a lot of luck involved in the playoffs and fortunately for the Canes they’ve been the luckiest team this playoffs (also one of the best) This is a really long winded comment of me just saying not to overrate coaches/players because of one great/lucky playoff run.
The thing is even "just one playoff run" happens to be a large percentage of this team's postseason history, even if you want to include their time in Hartford.

He's a legend for Carolina any way you want to slice it.

I'm sure something similar has been posted in this thread or another thread, but if the Bruins knock off the Blue Jackets, then lose to Carolina in the ECF, Don Cherry will have to appear naked on HNIC/Sportsnet, as there will be nothing in his wardrobe to cover his shame.

He was devastated in 2009 too. Canes won it in OT game 7 with Scotty Walker's famous goal. Tim Thomas exited the net like he'd been shot out of a cannon. Good times.

It just occurred to me that Slavin hasn't taken a single penalty in the playoffs. He's been playing over 26 minutes against the very best players the bad guys have to offer. His ability to legally shut guys down is incredible.

I'm very impressed how good McElhinney has been in these three games. Our star goalie going down and he just step up. #Respect

Words can't express how happy I am for the guy. I don't know how many more games he'll play this postseason and I'm a Mrazek stan lol--but he deserved that stretch of games imo and to finish out the series. He was a major part of our success this season and hell of a comeback story. Glad he got his moment to shine.

What I have heard from these hockey shows is the teams that have advanced in the playoffs are the teams who have not rode a #1 Goalie like Washington or Vegas, but had more of a tandem like Carolina, Islanders, and Colorado. Maybe there is something with the workload that these starters are coming up against once the playoffs hit as they play every game in the playoffs as well.

RBA succeeded the minute we clinched the playoffs.

Everything since then has been him hitting jackpots with house money.
