New Jerseys for 2013/14?

I just say leave them as-is. However, if they are actually going to change them up, they need to keep the hurricane warning flag print. That is one of the more unique and cooler looks among all of the uniforms in the NHL.

I'm with Slick Rick. I favor changing nothing at all, frankly, and do like the hurricane print along the bottom. I'm not even against the piping. The silver trim on the sleeves? Eh. I can live with it. I'm even partial to the logo, although it took some time to come around to. I even loathe the alternates far, far less than I used to.

It's not that I'm head-over-heels about the Canes kit, because I'm not. I'm just worried what they will cook up in an attempt to make it better.

I'm about the same as you on this Paul, although I'll admit I liked the alts straight away. We're not the best, we're not the worst, I like the storm flag print at the hem...really what else could you do to the jerseys to improve on them? I like the primary logo and think it's a fine graphical representation of a hurricane - what else are you going to do? Let's look at other teams that use the Hurricanes name:

Now, apart from Miami and Lethbridge (whose logos have no connection to the name at all - Miami's logo represents their "The U" nickname and Lethbridge's is a modification of the Caps logo), all but one team that uses the name "Hurricanes" has a stylized representation of a hurricane. The exception is Tulsa which uses the storm warning flags. So it's not like we're the odd men out in terms of using the shape of a hurricane as the primary element of our logo. I see no reason why we should change it.

It bugs me when marketing departments start monkeying with teams' identities for no good reason.

The Hurricanes have a great brand and image. It's just now getting to the point of being multi-generational, where things like the logo and jerseys start to take on a life of their own. What's the point of changing it now?

Minor changes, ok. Striping and piping and whatnot. But a total overhaul would be out of left field and really unnecessary.

If they use the simple logo they use on hurricane forecasts on tv, the simple two edge red hurricane logo and make it a little more agressive, that would be my idea.

Agree totally. The swirling hurricane logo is a pretty standard graphical representation of a hurricane, so what else would we do?

I have always liked the Tulsa logo with the two flags -- which is an accurate representation of a hurricane warning. As it stands now I guess we are just warning other teams of a storm, and not a full fledged hurricane.

The black sweaters, as I say, have grown on me. My thing has always been with the visibility of player name and number at times when you're actually in the arena and sitting where I sit. But the chest logo I like. At this point if there's one thing I would change it would be to make the shoulder patch red instead of gray. Personally I've always thought those shoulder patches look cheap as all get out in gray.

Aside from that, I've always been a big, big fan of strong, bright primary colors in sports uniforms, with bold, block numbers and letters. I like the Leafs unis, for example. Or the Rangers. Therefore, I really do like the red kit we've got now. Not keen on the rounded numbers and fonts on the nameplates, but that's just a nit to pick and not huge in my opinion.

I'm also fairly appreciative that the Hurricanes have stuck with designs -- for good or ill. Part of what worries me about fashionable changes can best be summed up by the NY Islanders ca. 1995-1998. How embarrassing in hindsight.

My expectations for any Canes changes? Tweaking the logo designs and/or putting what's currently the alternate logo on the home/away and not just the alts.

Let me close with this: Whoever decided to take a Hurricanes team and hijack the Caps logo... that was a masterstroke my friend. I can't stop staring at it.

I think it'll probably just be some 3D friendly logo, kind of like what the Panthers did last winter. Same concept just minor tweaks.

This is an excellent point. When you see NHL logo/uniform rankings, the O6 teams are almost always at the top. Why? In my opinion, it has more to do with how they have remained relatively unchanged over time rather than the designs themselves. The appeal lies in how classic the designs are and the heritage that comes along with them. I could certainly see a scenario where the Hurricanes logos/uniforms are more highly-regarded 10 years from now if left unchanged.

Also agreed here. Interestingly, other than the O6 teams only the 'Canes, Avs, Devils, Flyers, and Blues have kept their primary logos unchanged (some have had minor changes - the Panthers and the Oilers, for instance) since we began using the Hurricanes branding/identity in 1997. It's a recognizable brand and I'd hate to see it changed on a whim, especially to some faux retro crap.

And even at that, the Blues have made slight logo changes and the Devils changed their colors.

Sorry guys, In my head I meant to say that as long as we've had our identity (ie from 1997 to the present) only those teams have had a lack of logo changes - in double checking which teams I forgot to put in that qualifier. I've edited the post thusly to stem any further confusion.

Replace the green with red, dark blue with black, add current hurricanes logo and call it a day

You can still strike the Blues -- this was their logo in 1997:

I've presented this before, but I suggest changing the color scheme so that the "H" is easily visible.

EDIT: The exact same *colors* that Dan is suggesting.

As a Whaler fan, this makes me want to vomit. Either wear the green 80s jersey on St. Patrick's day or keep the Whale out if it. I don't need some marketing assclown trying to combine my two hockey loves and then just pissing all over past and present.

The Whaler logo is never happening nor should it. I love the Whale but come on, when I see it, I think of Hartford....And honestly it would be a spit in the face to Canes fans and old Whaler fans imo.

I would like the Canes logo altered though. I don't really like that it seems to blend in with the colors of the jersey.

And what possible sense would it make to have a W and a whale tale in the logo of the Carolina Hurricanes. It'd be like having a polar bear on a ****ing tropical island.
