I don’t care what the x% says either. My eyes told me we weren’t getting any saves. We needed one more save.
Sure, maybe a couple more saves and we win, but it's still bad hockey.

Now it's one game vs a team that was playing a counter punch style, maybe we were tired flying home after a game the night before, but you can not give up all these odd man rushes and expect to win.

A bad hockey WIN is still a win, though.

We had the lead going into the 3rd and were let down by Akira.

Yeah...the rest of the team went to f'n sleep apparently but we would've liked Akira to wake up since he was asleep most of the time.

I remember last season in games the Team played like ass but Vitek bailed their ass out.

This was one of those games where the Devils needed their goaltender to bail their ass out.

And he didn't.

C'mon dude, Akira was not in the game in the 3rd.

And after taking a lead the team proceeded to give up 2 more odd man rushes in the 3rd period. It's bad hockey, maybe a win hides the fact that we had egregious breakdowns from the eyes of some, but it doesn't mean those breakdowns didn't happen.

Again, besides the goaltending it's not a good sign that we've had 1st periods where we're being outshot 10-2 or 14-7 by the Detroit's, Arizona's, Montreal's and Washington's of the league
yup that's a whole other issue.

Personally I'm not overly concerned, but I'm also not walking around thinking we are playing great and the goalies are letting us down.

I’m not sure anyone is saying that though?

The narrative I’m seeing is that: Offensively we’re playing good, the D structure needs some work and more focus without being abysmal, the goaltending (more Schmid to start the year) has been a letdown.

Look at your own post above regarding Hughes looking real good. Meanwhile he is on the ice for multiple 2-1's against.

Again, not too upset by it, he's a young offensive minded d-man, these are to be expected to some extent. But is he looking "real good"? Only if we categorize his play as a young offensive minded d-man.

Look glen's post above. Cangy's saying "make a save". It's all very forgiving of bad hockey.

The only egregious 2-on-1 I remember with Luke was after he got crushed in the o-zone and no one covered for him. I thought he played a good game last night, he also just turned 20 years old and is a positive contributor for us.

I could also say that many here are very forgiving of bad goaltending.

I also tend to accept more mistakes in a game, because every single team makes them. You can limit them, but a mistake free hockey game is basically impossible or extremely rare. Most goals scored in the NHL result from a mistake. We clearly don’t agree on that aspect very much and that’s ok as far as I’m concerned!

The goaltending, slow starts, and defensive breakdowns are valid points of discussion and showing some concern is understandable. Thinking the sky is falling and the season is in ruin after 6 games and that we will not at least improve on our issues is just absurd.
Especially when we have more points after 6 games than last year. Not every game has been crisp, but it’s far from all bad. It’s early.

I'm not always forgiving of goaltending, and you do want to see your goal tending make tough saves, but literally all the goals against last night were odd man situations.

Aside from the en, so not literally literally.

People being forgiving of average goaltenders getting lit up because the above average veteran skaters in front of them are playing idiotic hockey that leaves the average goalie out to dry? The audacity!

I don’t think Vitek is the one getting blame here. Schmid had a very bad game, Vitek was average and made some good stops. I would’ve liked a save on that 2nd goal, but whatever. First one on Vitek was on the D.

Yeah the 2nd goal was bad but it’s hard to get on the guy too hard when he’s coming in relief and he played the night before. Schmid’s the one rightfully catching shit

Every goalie in the league has breakdowns in front of him on a nightly basis. You need to make a save. People are acting like any shot that isn't a low percentage wrister from the perimeter is unsaveable.

Almost every goal on Schmid was soft as shit.

I could tell he was going to stink it up from the jump with that terrible rebound he gave up at the beginning of the game. He is way off.

Soft or not. Every goal on Scmid was an odd man rush.

He played all of one period.

"Every team in the league has breakdowns" is another annoying, generalized retort that has become the go-to response to scapegoat our average goalies.

No mention of how many breakdowns or how bad those breakdowns are or the quality of the opponent. I guess every goalie is just facing the exact same thing in front of them, no differences at all!

Yeah, and the response to this from the more talented Devils skaters was to stink it up just as bad in front of him. I wonder if they were saying the same thing on the bench "Yo Akira, I know we make way more millions than you do and are expected to be top tier players, and you're at best an average joe goalie with not even 100 NHL games under your belt who looks shaky right from the first shot, but can you be the one to step it up and play well for the rest of the game? We just don't feel like it tonight, sorry bud!"
