This was one game where I actually felt safe with the two goal lead.

Team actually played pretty good defensively and didn't allow anything too deadly after grabbing the multi goal lead.

And Lou's pressers are much better than what we've been seeing all year.

It's amazing what happens when you use the middle of the ice

It was a breath of fresh air to see the ice opened up so much more tonight than we've seen in so long as a result of doing so

I love the homerism of the Pens announcers during both of Tootoo's fights.

1st fight-" Tootoo, with some unfinished business to take care of after the Jagr hit by Bortuzzo where the NHL thought it was a late hit
:shakehead

2nd fight -" Tootoo comes in and jumps Bortuzzo after numerous penalties on the play...there's a hook there , a slash there , a high stick , and Tootoo comes in and jumps Bortuzzo
:shakehead

Tootoo did start the 2nd fight that I don't think Bortuzzo wanted but f it. Tootoo 5'9'' and Bortuzzo is 6'4'' and he took an unnecessary shot at Jagr.

Well, Lou certainly being straight to the point here about how they felt about Bortuzzo hit on Jagr....almost a bit surprised to see Lou so openly endorse it,

No complaints here, I'm glad something was done

Lou said all day that this is what they wanted to focus on fixing the most.

On Gomez. His skills were again on display, and I know he is more a playmaker. But man, put a shock collar on him to make him shoot on some of those good chances.

Even at his best Gomez could never bring himself to shoot over pass very often, and that was before his 'I didn't score a goal in x number of days streak'. Aside from the one freak year where he did shoot when everyone's numbers were inflated post-lockout.

Pit and Anaheim or the only 2 teams in the league I can think of that he would be a 3rd line center on. Ideally he is our 2nd line center, but he isn't. We aren't in cap problems and he has consistently averaged around 55 points throughout his career while playing highly quality minutes. Who gives 2 ***** if he is overpaid by a bit.

It literally has no affect what so ever on our team from a personnel standpoint.

Ha except for Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Arizona, Colorado, Los Angeles, Montreal, minn, San Jose, St. Louis,..
Heck, it is easier to name the five or six teams he might actually be a second line center for.

Did you bother to actually look at a depth chart before typing this garbage?

This was the most fun I've had watching a Devils game in forever. I don't know where it came from, possibly the coaching change - but these guys looked HUNGRY. They battled hard, Tootoo came up huge sticking up for Jags after the BS hit last time they played the Pens, and they were entertaining to watch. Its not the most skilled team, but they can be really fun to watch play hockey if they play hungry and battle.

Schneider with another strong game in net, he seems to be on the upswing right now. Its been up and down for him this year, but its nice to see him warming up right when the team needs him most.

Beat Detroit and I'll start making comparisons to the Lemaire run in 2011. Go!

Do it again

Yeah, we've seen this team have a good game before. It's stringing them together that's the real test. I do think they've played with more emotion the last two games though. Whether it's because of the coaching change and it will wear off after a few games, or it's something they can sustain remains to be seen.

I think there are a few differences in how they are playing system wise.

Mostly in how they break out and go through the neutral zone. Seems to be more of an attempt to skate into the zone then dump and chase (actually I am almost sure there was less).

Whatever they did worked tonight. I don't think it means there's a massive turnaround coming, but it was certainly more enjoyable to watch than anything else so far this year.

I don't think we'll see that, the Devils never win in Detroit, have to go back to Neil Broten probably for our last win there. :sarcasm:

But, let's see if they can sweep the two home games this weekend vs MTL & Philly.
That will show me something.
I look forward to those two home games.

Well that's what really makes the fight worthwhile from a Devils perspective. Or in general shows how fighting still allows for the players to police themselves.

If cheap hit's result in fights that guys don't want, they'll probably be more careful in terms of doling out questionable hits.

I really give Too Too credit for going hard at Bortuzzo.

I wonder if Lou knew the fight(s) would spark the team and thus encouraged it in a (not so?) subtle way.

Maybe he fired Pete when he did knowing he could use that incident as a rallying cry? Aight now I'm getting a little far out there.
