Can't let this past weekend's hockey news go without this entry ...

The Lindenwood University Lions women's DI ice hockey team opened their 2023-24 season at home, playing under new head coach Taylor Wasylk (former Boston College & Team USA player). For the first time in the LU team's DI history (2011-12 to present) the Lady Lions won both of their opening games, defeating the Bemidji State University Beavers by scores of 4-2 and 4-1. Also a first in their DI seasons, those two victories mark the first time the team has held a >0.500 winning percentage. Congratulations to the team & their new coaching staff, and thanks for giving your fans something to celebrate.:wave:

Breaking news: Cole Eiserman, the Newburyport, Mass., native has decommitted from Minnesota and is looking to play college hockey closer to home.

He is most likely the second overall pick at the 2024 NHL draft.

University of Michigan hockey has given Johnny Druskinis the boot after he was caught on camera spray painting swastikas onto the Jewish Resource Center during welcome week.

Not a huge loss for the program.

The Air Force Academy men's ice hockey has been nailed by the NCAA for a recruiting infraction ...
... (A) recruiting violation occurred in the men's ice hockey program, when two assistant coaches had recruiting conversations with a potential transfer student-athlete who had not yet entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. ...

The school, enforcement staff, men's ice hockey head coach and two assistant coaches agreed that an additional violation at Air Force occurred in the men's ice hockey program, when two assistant coaches had approximately 18 impermissible recruiting contacts with a prospective student-athlete and his father before that student-athlete had entered the Transfer Portal. The men's ice hockey head coach is responsible for the behavior of his staff, and thus the parties agreed to a head coach responsibility violation. ...
The NCAA release details the punishments. :nono:

2023-24 New Season Primer

All the Changes, and What to Look Forward To, to Be Prepared For the New Season

by Avash Kalra/Senior Writer

In less than a week, the men's college hockey season commences with a loaded 23-game opening night slate on Oct. 7. And it will end six months later, with just one game, in St. Paul, Minn., the host of the 2024 NCAA Frozen Four.

But there's a lot to get to before that. First and foremost, the summer of 2023 was eventful, to say the least, and in many ways shaped the storylines as the brand new season begins. ...

So since the Sun Devils announced they are moving to the NCHC after this season, will this cause a realignment? Will the teams more in the midwest that are in the NCHC move to another conference like the CCHA and Air Force switching conferences as a result? Or will very little change?

U.S. DI hockey is very conference-centric, with each conference very protective of their organizations & memberships. So unless several schools across a wide geographic spread add DI programs on the men's side, there won't be a shuffle of teams anytime in the foreseeable future.

Fresh Start
It's a New Day in Wisconsin, as Hastings Breathes Fresh Air Into Program, And the Hopes of Many Players

by Jashvina Shah/Staff Writer ...

Disappointed.

It’s the word senior Sam Stange used to describe where Wisconsin is versus where it should be.

The Badgers, who have 27 NCAA Tournament appearances, have made the national tournament just twice in the past decade. Tony Granato, who was fired at the end of last season, brought Wisconsin to just one NCAA Tournament, during the COVID year. He reached the 20-win mark twice and had five losing seasons with the Badgers. Wisconsin won 13 games last year.

“I know anybody who has been involved with the program recently has been disappointed with where we've been,” Stange said.

“We ended the year not anywhere near where we wanted to and went through a pretty crazy spring with the coaching search starting shortly after our season ended.”

So when new head coach Mike Hastings addressed the team for the first time, he spoke of restoring the Badgers back to the program that won six national championships.

“The biggest thing he emphasized was how much respect he has for the program, and he knows the tradition here and he's excited to get back up to standard,” Stange said. ...

Maybe the City of Maryland Heights shouldn't have just rubber-stamped the construction of the rink without scrutinizing the business model and the bond prospectuses...

This could be bad news for Lindenwood down the road.

Dartmouth Begins Crucial Year in Rebuilding Phase

by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer ...

To say it has been a long road since 2020, is an understatement for Reid Cashman and Dartmouth. But with the new year, the Big Green and Cashman are hoping the tide has turned.

Cashman took over Dartmouth in 2020 from Bob Gaudet and was swiftly handed an unfair card — the 2020-21 season was cancelled for many teams, including Dartmouth, due to COVID. Having that as year one certainly set development back and set the direction early.

Since taking the reins in 2020, the Big Green have gone 12-46-4. In two years, Dartmouth has won consecutive games just once and has yet to win more than twice in a row. There have been other great games in that time, but the wins haven't come.

"Result based, it has been a rough couple of years for us," Cashman said. "I personally have really enjoyed what we are doing here. But for us, it is time for our program and our staff to start showing results." ...

DI Council approves changes to notification-of-transfer windows ...

The Division I Council on Wednesday approved changes to notification-of-transfer windows across all sports, including a reduction from 60 to 45 total days in both FCS and FBS football and a reduction from 60 to 45 consecutive days for men's and women's basketball.

The Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee supported 45-day windows as preferable to previously introduced 30-day windows. ...

In all other sports, windows will be modified to the following:
• Fall sports: 30 days in the fall, beginning seven days after a sport's championship selection, and 15 days in the spring (May 1-15).
Winter sports: 45 days, beginning seven days after championship selection.
• Spring sports: 30 days in the spring, beginning seven days after a sport's championship selection, and 15 days in the fall (Dec. 1-15).

The council also heard from the Legislative Committee on an update to graduate transfer waiver guidelines. The Legislative Committee noted that notification-of-transfer deadlines of May 1 for fall and winter sports and July 1 for spring sports apply to graduate transfers transferring for the first time, and that beginning in 2024-25, graduate students seeking waivers for postgraduate eligibility will need to comply with those same deadlines. ...

All I can figger is that somebody in the MH city offices (maybe the city manager that was suspended back in May 2020?) believed Centene Ice's location adjacent to Hollywood Casino would somehow guarantee another goose-golden egg tax revenue scenario by proximity.

Then there's the insult-to-injury financial woes breaking news for Centene Ice, as if they needed more challenges ...
