Will be hard for Ottawa to get him imo

who knows but if you want to be close to home but play in a better situation then MTL might be your best bet. If he doesn't care about location then there are def better options

I guess depth is always good but it isnt a big loss or gain

If we really want to make a push to sign Veronneau, we should offer Kuffner a deal as well and offer them NHL games as linemates.

Those two have great chemistry together and are BFFs. Bringing in the Kurri (Kuffner) to Princeton's Gretzky (Veronneau) and making him happy by having a familiar face around is a pretty good sales pitch, IMO.

We are probably the best option as far as him being able to step into an NHL lineup and havingan immediate effect. In Montreal, he'd be at best a depth piece.

There's nowhere else in the league where he can step into the lineup immediately and have the same opportunity as he could with us.

I think both would be ideal... and this is not a huge stumbling block... but we would need to clear a contract if we plan to sign Daccord this yr.

The Senators probably have one of the most appealing situations for a young FA right now. Plenty of opportunity to get onto an NHL roster quicker.

That's true if he wants to step in now Ottawa is good and if he wants to play at home

I wonder of Dorion has mentioned the upcoming Five Years of Unparalleled Success? They won't want to miss that.

Veronneau COULD be a very nice #3RW for a decent team who can drive offence from the 3rd line and create matchup issues for opposing teams, if his game translates well to pro hockey.

He'll need some work on how to defend against pros. There's some polishing that needs to be done, but the skillset to be a fast playmaking center in this league is there.

I thought he was a winger.

Here is a 4 part summary on NCAA free agents this year:
Top 2019 College Hockey Free Agents - Last Word on Hockey

Here are some from the part part series that seem interesting:

Taro Hirose, Left Wing, Michigan State, 5’10” 161 lbs, Junior
Despite being undersized, Hirose may be one of the most sought after forwards in this year’s free agent class. The 22-year-old has 15 goals and 50 points in 33 games this season. He has outstanding hands and can stickhandle in a phone booth. Hirose is extremely difficult to contain in one-on-one situations. He has the ability to get around a defender or just make a subtle move to open up passing or shooting lanes. Hirose has outstanding vision and passing skills. He can make a tape-to-tape pass through tight spaces. He also has a very quick release on his shot which can fool goaltenders. Hirose is also a very good skater which helps him to make up for his lack of size

Alec Rauhauser, Left Defence, Bowling Green, 6’3″ 216 lbs, Junior
Rauhauser has had another strong season with Bowling Green, putting up three goals and 24 points in 35 games. Last season he had nine goals and 39 points in 41 games. Rauhauser is a great stick handler, he controls the puck on a string and even made a name for himself by scoring a lacrosse-style goal on his backhand in high school. He runs the point on the power play with a great slapshot and excellent wrist shot. Rauhauser has great vision and passing ability, setting up teammates for scoring chances. He understands to keep his shots low to allow teammates to get tip-ins and rebounds. Rauhauser is a strong skater who can lead the rush. Just a junior, he could choose to go back to school to continue to work on his defensive game.

Nico Sturm, Centre, Clarkson, 6’3″ 207 lbs, Junior
The 23-year-old German is the captain of the Golden Knights. He has put together an excellent season with 13 goals and 41 points in 34 games. Sturm has excellent size and plays a strong two-way game, even winning the award for best defensive forward in the ECAC in 2017-18. While he does nearly everything well in the defensive end, it is his offensive game that is also opening eyes. Sturm uses his size effectively on the boards and in the cycle game, winning battles, keeping possession and setting up teammates for scoring chances. He has the strength to fight off defenders and get to the front of the net for scoring chances as well.

Johnny Walker, Right Wing, Arizona State, 6’1” 185 lbs, Sophomore
One of the best stories in college hockey this season has been the rise of the Arizona State Sun Devils. Walker has had a huge role in that leading the team with 23 goals and 34 points in 31 games. This follows up on a 17-goal campaign as a freshman. Walker plays a very agressive style. He is quick to get in on the forecheck and pressures defenders into turnovers. He also gets to the front of the net where he causes havoc and drives opposing teams nuts. While Walker is full of grit, he also has skill with quick hands and an excellent arsenal of shots. He can play the role of sniper from further out as well.

Any CBA guys look into the contract situation yet? If we go for Daccord are we out of luck for signing another NCAA free agent?

Lonely end of the rink
It would be nice on it's own merits just to have somebody actively choose Ottawa in the current climate. He would be the first person to do so in some time, and it could send an affirming message to players and fans. It would be nice to evolve into a room full of players actively wanting to be right here, right now and choosing to be a committed part of what hopefully becomes a great from-the-ashes hockey story.

signing a NCAA free agent doesnt really send an affirming message to player and fans. Especially since none of these guys look to be high end players

actually i doubt many fans will even know that we signed a ncaa free agent

What makes you think that?

We have 29 out of a 50 contract maximum next year.

We're at 48 contracts for this season so there's no reason why we can't.

+ Veronneau = 49
+ Daccord = 50

So yes, as Sens Mile said:

We would not be able to sign anyone else to a contract starting in 2018-2019 unless we trade one of our current contracts. Remember, we can still make trades, they just cant play in the playoffs. So maybe we trade Beaudin for 'future considerations' or something like that if we have the opportunity to sign someone else.
