I have always hated, but respected Zucker. He was a Pred killer fast flying around eveywhere breaking up plays , or scoring game tying , or game winning goals. I like and see the type guys the preds target. If Parssinen could just hit that other gear that would be awesome. He was sent down to MIL. to be the main man tons of playing time as a center on the 1st line. He is slowly getting the right aggro mindset, asserting himself as a cosistent threat to score , or drive play.

They were talking about this team being close to setting the team record for most goals in a season so went to look . How the F did that 2006-2007 team not do better. Not only did they score a ton but they only gave up 2.52 goals per game

We all know that the Preds started the season rough. The first 10 games were 4-6-0, not bad all things considered, but then they lost 4 of the next 5 and were at the bottom of the league with a 5-10-0 record. This point in time set the narrative for the new GM and coach, as well as the newly constructed team even though they had a 5 game win streak and were 10-10-0 at the 20 game mark. Looking at 10 or game splits as indicators of how a team is performing at the moment has value but I think larger segments tell the story of the NHL season.

Breaking the Preds season down into 3rds tells a bit of a different story from the doom and gloom narrative.

The first 27 games, everything is new, everyone is trying to figure out exactly who and what they have, where they fit in the league. Fans everywhere are still hopeful.

The middle 28 games, the "going through the motions" part of the schedule. It's a long season, the "new" has worn off and the bulk of the season is still in front of you, systems should be learned by now with coaches trying to tweak things or fix mistakes. It's a hard grind for the players and coaches.

The final 27 games, post trade deadline, the final push to the playoffs, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Teams destined for the playoffs start ramping up their play, teams that aren't going to make the tournament fall off. Integrating new players arriving from trades and filling holes left by players traded away, there's some "new" again. Perfecting your system and identity are the buzz words for the interviews but also very real and important. It's a fun time for teams, and their fans, if they're play well going into the playoffs.

I for one am pretty excited about the up coming playoffs, I think the Preds are in a good position to have success. You can look back at other Preds teams to see how they did during the season and how that translated to the post season (the 18-19 and 21-22 teams for example) but here is what this year looks like.

1st 27 games.........14-13-0
Middle 28 games...14-12-2
Last 27 games........20-4-3 (with a win over Pittsburgh)

That last 3rd of the season is a 60-12-10 pace over 82 games that would be good for 130 points! The Preds were also above .500 in the other sections even with all the "new". Really an impressive season

The playoffs are a maximum of 28 games, if you played every game and were successful at the end you'd have a 16-12 record.

Wasn't Vokoun hurt for both those playoffs? And Mason sucked, he couldn't get from post to post so the backdoor was always open. Oh, and, his rebound control was so bad the Sharks just shot for a "pass on pads" all the time.

It’s interesting that almost everyone is almost calling it a lock that we are facing Vancouver first round

It does seem that way- we have a 5 point lead over Vegas- but- they have 3 games left and final 2 are home games vs Hawks and Ducks

If Vegas beats Avs today they are almost certainly going to finish with 100 pts meaning we might have to get 1 point tomorrow in Pittsburgh to assure WC1

Hoping Avs can win today and take care of it so that tomorrow night game is meaningless

Any type of win the Avs can pull off is enough.

We have the tie-break over Vegas so even if they were to win out after tonight and we would lose to Pitt, we'd still be WC1.

I guess we're just screaming at the clouds now, but, if we take a bit of a logical look at things we could break it down like this.

Trenin swapped for Zucker
Rando D prospect for Rando D prospect
6th round pick for 3rd round pick
5th round pick for Beauvillier

This mixes and matches the different trades but objectively makes the team better while still retaining (if not slightly improving) picks and prospects.
Or you could have just kept Trenin to play with Zucker on Sissons line and had a much better line. People seem to forget Trenin had a pretty good playoffs for us. I would have rather had a better team in the playoffs, and you know not handed him to the competition as well.

This isn't a Trenin vs Zucker thing when you could have had both.

Interesting that we're going to get such a long break before the playoffs start. Every other western conference playoff team either has a game on Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Obviously nice to get some time to let injuries heal but given Saros propensity to struggle after a long layoff it may not be ideal to have quite so long off.

Take 3 day break the pre-season type camp?

BTW Ads clinched a bye in the 1st rd. Preds vs Ads mini camp?

Pretty sure we will get an 8:30 start time due to games in the East. It will be a short series if we play Dallas, so we won't lose much sleep

Looks like LA is going to lose

Vancouver is interesting. They beat the predators three times out of three, but this was before the U2 fiasco, so they will be extremely confident and unknowing about what the predators can do.

Edit: If LA loses, Nashville gets wild card one

What’s funny is getting WC1 could still mean facing Dallas- it’s a slim chance but Vancouver can still pass Dallas

And oh by the way we also still could face Edmonton- again slim chance but they also can still pass Vancouver for division title

Watch either of them still kick our asses, but Vancouver and Edmonton don't scare me nearly as much in playoff type hockey as Dallas does.
