I want Silver Knights. But how to do that with the red rock desert color the owner admitted recently will be in a kind of Knights name for the NHL team?

Silver Knights and the desert just don't go together well.

I might be reaching here but though unsuccessful they looked for Gold and Silver in RRC numerous times and for a while mined iron ore out of Sandstone or something; so wouldn't take them off the table because of RRC connection (especially with the name should evoke "never give up, never surrender" rhetoric) or maybe the reveal will be Iron Knights... I like it better than Desert anyway.

Red will be a color (as in red rock - desert brownish actually), according to the owner, with a Knights name.

That suggests Desert Knights.... unless silver and red rock red go well together. :help:

I remember now, at the beginning of all this, how Mr. Foley described a "vision" he had...

He imagined an Excalibur-like sword in a rock at centre ice. The mascot walks out, at the beginning of the pre-game festivities, and removes the sword, causing the ice to crack, etc.

I'm wondering if that "red rock" of Foley's recent mention, becomes the Excalibur stone in one of the logos. (I've shown it with the "Vegas Star" sword).
I'm not a fan of "Desert Knights", but it could provide some interesting options for a mascot...
a scorpion, a vulture...a giant red cactus?...

Red Rock Casino uses a nice dark red, I think that would go really well with Black, Silver, and Gold. In fact, Sparky's original version of my avatar included a dark red in the design. https://redrock.sclv.com/

Speak of the devil. I think we can still be Silver Knights with the desert red. There are plenty of teams with 3/4 colors. Heck, I think Atlanta had 10 colors.

I realize that most people associate the desert with those big Saguaro Cacti, but that's an Arizona/Sonoran desert thing. Las Vegas is in the Mojave Desert and we don't have Saguaro cactus here. Our "indicator species" is the Joshua Tree. In fact, you can tell when you switch from the Mojave to the Sonoran desert when the Joshua Trees go away and the Saguaro Cactus start showing up.

I'm pretty sure there's a Saguaro or two at McCarran Airport, but they're literally the only ones I've seen in Vegas.

You're right BattleBorn. Foley mentioned the red of red rock. That shouldn't be an automatic jump to "Desert Knights". The knock against the gold/silver/black combo was that it seemed to need a spot of something more colourful. That "something" could be the red that he mentioned, and it still could be the "Silver Knights".

I hope so. I'm not a big fan of the two-worded name. "Black Knights" was ok because it had a purpose, so to speak. The other two-worders seemed to be a way to skirt trademark and domain roadblocks. I don't like "Desert Knights". "Silver Knights" has the connection with the silver state and it'll be shortened to Knights for most purposes anyway.
Silver/black/gold/red would look fine.

...and thanks for the cactus tutelage...that can be a prickly subject at times :naughty:.

Las Vegas Black Knights
Las Vegas Dark Knights
Las Vegas Silver Knights

All of those sound pretty sweet. Las Vegas Golden Knights isn't too bad either. Desert and Sand Knights are terrible. Regardless, it'll be cool to have a "Knights" team in the NHL, logo should be pretty sweet.

I agree with the rest saying the team name doesnt have to be desert knights to have red in it.

Silver Knights with silver, black, red trim, or maybe even double trim with red and gold.

Theres lots of concepts out there and I am in love with like 90% of them. Yeah I was in favor of Nevada and just Knights, but badass logos and jerseys is more important.

As long as they dont look like the Thrashers or the Islanders jerseys of the past I at least wont hate it.

The question with Desert Knights is, if Foley wants a global name and to be mass marketed to international visitors, then does Desert Knights appeal to that market? It just doesn't seem to cut it for that purpose. The logo themes seem way too local.

Silver speaks more to the Knights piece, but when trying to place it the hierarchy of money, well, it's behind Gold. Moreover, if the NHL does have concerns over a possible relocation of the Raiders 'Silver & Black' down the line, then you avoid 'Silver' at all costs to avoid getting swallowed up in 40+ years of tradition of a well-known nickname of a team and its fanbase.

Golden Knights gets your Knights in there, its also has inferences to the Strip in many ways, but not directly, and is distinguishable. It references higher prestige and class - it's internationally appealing as well.

Hmmm. All good points blitz...
Although, some cities do have a shared colour scheme with their teams (Pittsburgh).

Right again BB. Red would work well with Foley's black/gold/silver...

I may just steal an image for an avy again.

Regardless of what the modifier is, I am going to vehemently refer to the Las Vegas team as the Knights. With some exceptions here and there.

"I'm a Knights fan"
"can't wait to see who the Knights draft"
"can't wait to see Nolan Patrick in a Knights uniform"

Easy enough to do with the properly aligned cameras to "paint" the ice.

Sharks do it during playoffs and it looks like there are actual sharks under the ice that have broken it up so the players/coaches have to "walk" across the water with sharks coming up to the surface.

I tried doing a Las Vegas team on the NHL 17 Beta a while back and came up with this but it's a little too Florida Panthers-y. Gonna try again when the game actually launches.

The only name that makes any sense is Silver Knights.

Unless you consider the NFLs raiders are sniffing at Vegas and are known as the 'Silver and Black' with the origin of that color scheme since 1963 and one of the larger fanbases in the NFL in fans and culture. IMO, that would be a risky move by the team and the league and the Silver Knights would get swallowed up in an identity crisis, if the NFL moves into town.

Folks, the names will be one of the following. As Foley stated, they are trademarked (technically they applied for a trademark in the US) for six names:

Las Vegas Desert Knights
Las Vegas Golden Knghts
Las Vegas Silver Knights

3 of the names have been applied for dropping the 'Las'. Each set ( 2 per each name) are for entertainment services and merchandising for professional hockey.

Applications exist under Neon Knights but by a different law firm and no 'Vegas' in the application.

Not necessarily. The Kings and Lakers shared color schemes...ditto the Kings and the Raiders for a time.

Nevada is the Silver State.
