That AC/DC tune was f***ing horrible. 3chord wonder.. got it....

next.
A friend used to fill in sometimes in an AC/DC clone band. He said that wasn't just their name, but the chord progression in every song.

Obviously not literally, but....

Nobody is asking me (similar to hockey) but I have SRV as #1 guitar, Page as #2 and EVH down after #5 probably.

Am I the only who who puts Van Halen in the bucket of "super successful hair band"?
Yes to Stevie Ray Vaughan or for this forum yes, yes, yes.

Edit: Just saw that I responded to an October 2020 post.

RIP Taylor Hawkins. Overdosed in 2001 and was in coma for a week. This time he reportedly told hotel staff his heart was racing so…..

What a shame no matter how he died

Last I had read or heard he was clean, such a shame. Can't help but feel bad for Grohl doing this all over again.

i saw stevie ray before he got famous open for an under rated all time great. johnnie winter. that show was at the nassau coliseum in the year 19 God knows when!
I saw SRV in '83 (at least I think that was it) on the Pier in NYC. He was just becoming well known after the Bowie "Let's Dance" album and his own first album. I saw him a few more times (including great seats at CW Post), but unfortunately I did not see him after he cleaned up his act and was playing so great near the end.

it's kinda funny (ironic funny, not haha funny). when i moved down south, stevie, skynard, zz, allmans were all soooo overplayed that i lost the appreciation i had when i lived up north for awhile. once i got satellite radio, it all fell back into place

conversely, when i lived in ny, i could not STAND springsteen, bowie, steely dan and others that i'm sure i'm forgetting because of the overplay. now i have a deep respect and appreciation for all those artists

That is funny. When I started at Hofstra I was so put off by the seemingly universal love for Springsteen there that I instantly didn't like him. In my case I kind of never got over it.

in all honesty, same being true for of all people james taylor, when i saw those guys in concert, it made a HUGE difference. that plus like i said, just getting away from the seemingly non stop airplay and hype (more so of bruce) gave me the ability to become somewhat more objective. i went to brooklyn college and one guy in particular at the college radio station thought springsteen was the literal 2nd coming. we were there when the darkness on the edge of town album came out.....literally took me years to be able to listen to that

the guy used to bellow out "THE BOSS".....to which i always sardonically replied, "not my freaking boss"

ah, the good ole days!!!!

There are some Springsteen songs I’ll never get tired of hearing though if I hear Born to Run one more time my head might explode.

With that being said, I’m kind of done with him. Way too preachy and religious. His voice was always an acquired taste but it’s gravelly tone and wail nowadays ain’t what it used to be.

He should go LTIR

what's up jt!!

i'm certainly not a huge fan but 42 years out of new york allowed me to mature enough into proper respect for the guy without the old wnew fm jocks shoving him down my throat. i watched that "western stars" movie a week or two ago. taking it at face value, it wasn't bad!

funny you mention born to run.....adding to my disdain back then was the fact that i used to hang around the bay ridge bars and there was this guy named jack whitman who was the local singer/celebrity and he was always playing like 3 different places on each weekend night. born to run was one of his encores. i hated that song too all those years ago.

we used to heckle jack by screaming out for "rock the casbah".....all good natured fun

miss those times!!

What’s up Mike?

I’m really still a huge Springsteen fan but….the working man BS and his trend toward preachy songs that sound like sermons have turned me off.

I’m happy that he’s made a boatload of money but cmon now, his daughter is an equestrian of all things. The only horse I can relate to is next door to the Isles arena.

I can't get that detailed but according to Spotify I've been on a huge All Them Witches, Big Wreck, King's X, Marcus King, Rival Sons and Elbow kick in 2022 (re: Elbow, that definitely falls into the "one of these things is not like the other" category lol).

To this 64-year-old, a list of Best of 2022 is like a list of tallest buildings in Wichita

I enjoy this thread. (Not said in a mocking tone)

I wish people would put genres of music with the artists. Would be helpful. That is all.

And not like the traditional genre names.. you can be as creative as you’d like and maybe give comparisons to existing artists/feels/jams to help.

Just my unsolicited .02

It's a good day when we can speak unmockingly and not have people ask if we're feeling Ok!
