RJD.. how I loved the little troll with that voice. His solo stuff with Vivian Campbell were staples of my playlist back in the day.. Here's hoping the Ilses are The Last in Line..

Much prefer the Dio albums. They are much better than anything they did with Ozzy, but of the early albums Master of Reality is the best

I like the Dio albums too. I haven't bothered with anything after Born Again.

Rank objective:

11 Born Again
10 Technical Ecstacy
9 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
8 Sabotage
7 Never Say Die
6 Mob Rules
5 Master of Reality
4 Black Sabbath
3 Heaven And Hell
2 Paranoid
1 Vol. 4

9 Sabotage
8 Master of Reality
7 Technical Ecstacy
6 Mob Rules
5 Black Sabbath
4 Paranoid
3 Heaven And Hell
2 Vol 4

In 1 week (9/18/2020) it will be 50 years since Jimi Hendrix died. A couple of weeks after that will be the Janis Joplin anniversary. In 2021 it will be 50 years for Jim Morrison and Duane Allman. I was 9 and 10 when they died and only really remember the Hendrix death (that was big news at the time).

(BTW, a few weeks ago it was 30 years since SRV died - crazy how time flies)

Thank you for classing up this thread with genuine talent. The first two posts didn't start out well.

Eddie had a 30 second spot on Two and a Half Men . Came out of the restroom with his guitar around his neck . Said “ you never know when you’ll get your inspiration “ .

Grew up with Eddie Van Halen. Just an electric talent. He didn't just play guitar - His fingers treated the fretboard as a dancefloor. Never seen someone use their hands that way on a guitar before (or since). A true artist as if Beethoven played the guitar was rolled into all the garishness of the 1980's.

One of a kind and his infectious joy of playing the guitar made you gravitate to him and his music. While his music was long behind him the past few years, we lost an overall special human being today and it's the ideal time to celebrate his life and what he gave us all...

Watched this 3 times, the smoking cigarette on the headstock looking like EVH is lighting the guitar on fire with his playing is the chef's kiss

Van Halen was always very technically impressive, but I don't think he was a good rock guitarist, really. Everything sorta floated over the rhythm section rather than engaging with it. Plus, his approach set up this kind of standard where an insensate precision-based playing sort of ascended and the results of it were almost universally bad. I don't think it was intentional, but it's kinda like Bowie and his cruddy offspring of New Romantics, etc. where the damage leads back to him as a source.

Nobody is asking me (similar to hockey) but I have SRV as #1 guitar, Page as #2 and EVH down after #5 probably.

Am I the only who who puts Van Halen in the bucket of "super successful hair band"?
