I was being generous. I'd even give him a one way contract.
I would be very reticent to go long term or high dollars with him given his injury history. I'd also think that a full year of evaluation is in order before any longer term deal is signed. He still has an RFA year left and I doubt an arbitrator would give him more than $4 million so I don't see the hurry in signing him long term.
If they go long term with him, I'd think a 4 x 4 deal would be one which could satisfy all sides.
That's the offer I'd make to Murray. Give him the choice of a one year arbitration contract OR a 4 x $4m deal. Maybe settle a little closer to $4.5m per.
