How much money is the NHL going to waste on this lazy, washed up bum? He's a dog, he's been a dog for years.

Seeing how he can be buried with no consequences and Montreal has money to burn it seems like an okay move. Definitely not something to feel a lot of positive or negative emotions for though.

All these Leaf fans criticizing this move.Have they all forgot about Spezza.

Spezza has been a great pick-up. He's scoring a little over .5 pts per game right now.

It's a fine move for Montreal because if it doesn't work out he can be buried.

I like the move, I said it in the other thread that under the right circumstances he could go back to a 20-25 goal pace. At that cap hit, its a win win, if he sucks he doesnt play.

He'll never be the same as he used to, but he can still score imo. His intensity might increase in a fresh environment aswell.

I liked the scandella move yesterday too, but, we'll see if its too late.

I don't know why everyone is complaining. Habs have a young quick team. All Kovalchuk needs to do is sit in the slot and fire.

Its pretty low risk.

- didn't cost them anything
- they have the cap space
- if he sucks, demote him

I dont see much downside here.

I feel like this is gonna work out well.

LAK had a ****ty team strategy.

18-19 with Kovalchuk
24-35-5 (68 pt pace)
150 GF (2.34)
205 GA (3.20)

18-19 without Kovalchuk (with Willie freakin D as coach)
7-7-4 (82 pt pace)
49 GF (2.72)
54 GA (3.00)

19-20 with Kovalchuk
5-11-1 (53 pt pace)
43 GF (2.53)
66 GA (3.88)

19-20 without Kovalchuk
12-10-3 (89 pt pace)
66 GF (2.64)
65 GA (2.60)

The Kings have a decently better record without him, score more without him, and give up far fewer without him. Especially this year. Well over a full goal less per game since they sat him for good.

The problem with Kovalchuk, at least with the Kings, was that he didn't but into any strategy. If he does, he still has some talent. If he's out there doing his own thing, he seems to be able to take a borderline average team, and make it one of the worst in the league. Luckily for Montreal, there's little risk.
