Makes sense for both teams. Niemi have been better for Montreal than montoya and the oilers need an experienced backup.

Niemi has been better than Montoya has been for the Habs this season. Montoya also has a cheap contract next year too. Doubt we'd get a 4th for Niemi. Lindgren will be in the NHL full time next year. Good trade for the Canadians.

So basicly, we have Price, Niemi and Lindgren over him. Nobody would complain if Montoya have been gone by waivers. We have a free 4th-5th and still save money on cap.

Its another small move by Bergevin, but another good one.

Niemi . . .

. . . better than another goalie?

Great asset management by MTL to pick up Niemi for free and trade Monty for a 4th. Now trade Niemi for anything and call up Lindgren.

I don't see Montoya getting more than 7 games this year unless Talbot goes down again (knock on wood) so it's most likely a 5th for Montoya.

Habs will probably draft the next Datsyuk with that pick.

This is essentially putting a child's Mickey mouse band-aid on a large blood-gushing wound that is the Oiler's playoff hopes

Just told this to Chiapet, and he said: 'Sounds like it will work for sure, then!'

Look out NHL! Montoya is gonna burn down your villages!

I hate this deal for wasting a pick, contract spot and development time for our young goalies. Better options for cheaper were available all year too.

come on. Talking like a conditional 4th, more than likely 5th, is a 1st or 2nd. Where is the development squandered? If brossoit gets sent down and makes it through waivers that's good for him. If he gets claimed then your point is redundant. This is a low risk with some reward. Probably meant to put pressure on brossoit.

Oilers don't have any young goalies who should be developing in the NHL, so this is a positive for them there.

seems like relationship building for another trade.

I don't see much point in this. It takes a contract spot, and we don't even know if he'll be any good for us.

However, our pro scouting has turned out to be pretty good, finding guys like Maroon and Desharnais. Maybe Chia or some scouts see something in Montoya. It would be great to have a goalie that coaching could have some faith in, and give Talbot a break once in a while
