I don't see Montoya getting more than 7 games this year unless Talbot goes down again (knock on wood) so it's most likely a 5th for Montoya.

Absolutely. Niemi has been fine since coming to Montreal. I don't think he's won a game but that's on the team in front of him being unable to score.

come on. Talking like a conditional 4th, more than likely 5th, is a 1st or 2nd. Where is the development squandered? If brossoit gets sent down and makes it through waivers that's good for him. If he gets claimed then your point is redundant. This is a low risk with some reward. Probably meant to put pressure on brossoit.

Oilers don't have any young goalies who should be developing in the NHL, so this is a positive for them there.

seems like relationship building for another trade.

I don't see much point in this. It takes a contract spot, and we don't even know if he'll be any good for us.

However, our pro scouting has turned out to be pretty good, finding guys like Maroon and Desharnais. Maybe Chia or some scouts see something in Montoya. It would be great to have a goalie that coaching could have some faith in, and give Talbot a break once in a while
