This is a really awful turn of events. I really thought the risk was worth it, now they lost a bunch of assets on a guy who not only had a bad life hygiene, but didn't deliver on the field.

At least if he was performing...

I wasnt a fan of giving up so much to get him considering how unproven he was and the risk. Now the trade is beyond terrible.

Rule of thumb: Buyer beware of players coming to the CFL just hoping to get back to the NFL.

The best CFL players just love to play the game and aren't in it for the money because their isn't a lot.

Given how suddenly this is happening, you have to wonder what his previous CFL team knew.

The conditions for his employment in the CFL were outlined in the agreement reached between commissioner Randy Ambrosie and Manziel in December 2017. The details have never been released by the league, but Manziel told USA Today last summer that the conditions include mandatory doctor visits and Lithium tests each month and weekly therapist visits.

The CFL did not announce which provisions of the agreement had been broken, and Manziel’s agent Erik Burkhardt did not respond to requests for comment.

Kavis Reed is an idiot. Spent a ton to land Manziel and put in no safeguards in his deal with the Ti-Cats.

Apparently he did it on purpose to leave the CFL and play in the new football league down in the US. Which is douchey of a move but logical.

Montreal gave up Jamaal Westerman, Chris Williams plus two 1st-round draft picks for Manziel on July 22nd last year.

Als should do the right thing and emulate what the Ti-Cats did upon trading Manziel:

Shortly after the deal was made Hamilton announced that it would give away $100 vouchers to fans who bought a Manziel Ticats jersey to purchase 'new gear' for Saturday's game at Tim Hortons Field.

Even better, they should fire the Chiarelli of the CFL right now.

I’m told #AlsMTL have signed Canadian OL Spencer Wilson from Calgary

They signed a good canadien guard that was in Calgary

The great thing about Spencer Wilson is that he can play all five positions. My prediction.

According to this, Manziel used a loophole to slip out of his contract:

Conditions were set and Manziel failed to meet them. Manziel was released by the Montreal Alouettes on Wednesday as ordered by the CFL, which established conditions when it agreed to allow the quarterback to sign a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last spring. Though those conditions were never publicly released, they included meeting with medical and mental heath professionals while following his prescribed treatment plan for bipolar disorder.

According to sources, when the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner was negotiating his contract with the Ticats last spring, Manziel wanted the ability to take a shot at the NFL after one CFL season. The league did not have an option year window in place at the time – it was re-added last August – and would not allow the stipulation into his contract.

But Manziel knew that by not going to mandatory doctors visits, required lithium tests or meeting a therapist once a week – conditions of the agreement he revealed to USA Today last June – would potentially force the CFL to void it. Essentially, Manziel had an out clause if he wanted it.

The league offered Manziel the chance to rectify the breach, but the 26-year-old was unwilling to proceed. Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed would have kept Manziel on the roster if the league had not intervened.

How did Kavis Reed not know that Manziel wanted out of the CFL this season? Seems to me Reed did not do his due diligence. Also, the Ti-Cats are in bad faith if the above info is correct as they knew that Manziel did not intend on continuing with the CFL after last season.

And yet ... Reed doled out two first round picks without making them conditional.

If the above account is true, there must be something Reed can do to seek retribution. Or perhaps, he's just the Chiarelli of the CFL and he's been long overdue.

You gotta think the CFL will give the Als some form of compensation picks for this because the Ti Cats acted in bad faith if they didn't disclose this. That said, Reed should have did his diligence and shouldn't have given up 2 1st round picks for someone who wasn't proven and was a flight risk.

Its a unfortunate for us but its the consequence of having a GM with no plan or ability to manage.

I hope the first thing they do is can the GM and coaches. Bring in Jacques Chapdelaine, Danny Maciocia and see if Pierre Vercheval want to be involved. The guy's a brain when it comes to the game.
